One of my concerns about beginning a career in trucking by doing OTR training and perhaps spending the first year or so OTR is my physical health and exercise. What do you experienced drivers do for exercise? Is it common for truck stops to have exercise facilities? Do you walk laps around the truck? Walking around the truck stop itself seems like not a good idea due to the danger of getting hit by someone. Thanks.

I was thinking about this recently. I'm driving but still haven't settled on something that works for me.
I wondered if the first concern might be diet? I sometimes think what I could use is a small fridge, but our trucks don't have APUs or Inverters. I'm not sure if some small fridges can run off a ciggy socket and if so, how long the battery would keep it running.
I have a Koolatron electric cooler, but I'm not sure it good long term for most foods like meat or eggs. Maybe cheese.
Not sure what to say about exercise. I'm wondering if I just need to workout hard at a gym on my home time then go back to sitting on my ###. I do 12 days out Regional with 3.5 days home. -
I pull flatbed and you can still get fat doing this, trust me.
Jump rope and a heavy kettle bell is all you really need. There’s a few full body exercises you can do with a kettle bell and jump rope is fantastic cardio. The best part is you can do these in such a short time. Ever jump rope for 10min? It’s a pita.WesternPlains, Lepton1, BigDog Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am not sure I can jump rope, but will give it a try. I was hoping for a tread mill. Maybe they make them portable but I would probably look pretty silly walking on one in a truck stop parking lot.

but also, all the lazy fat slobs, take up spaces near the truck stop, cuz they might have a stroke or heart attack if they had to walk more than 10 feet.
but when i got off the road, and drove locally, i'd either walk a school/public track, either before work or after. my current job, i walk the yard, and many times, up and down the street, for about 1 mile total. when the weather is really nice, i'll put in maybe 2 miles.Labrador Thanks this. -
Buy a mat . Push ups, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, squat thrusts, and planks can all be done next to your truck. You can do step ups on stairs or even a curb. Walk around loading and unloading facilities if it is safe to do so. Wear your safety vest. Carry water, apples and nuts for snacks and drinks. Bag salad and a roaster chicken is a great meal. Buy a lunch box cooker they're great for cooking in small areas.
Labrador Thanks this. -
