I'll post this on a different thread also as I'm not sure this is a problem specific to Volvo's and someone else might have run into it and have a solution.

This is the second Volvo that I have had that has exhaust come in through the dash vents. It happens when the truck is idling with the fresh air switch on. It is so bad that it can make your eyes water. I don't notice it much when the recirc is cut in. I have run most of the models of trucks out there and can not remember it happening with any other make.

Our mechanic has checked about everything he can think of and can't find a leak.

Anyone have an idea what it might be and a solution to stop the exhaust from coming through the vents?

It has to be somewhere close to the manifold, probrably right where the exhaust leaves the manifold and goes under the cab, somewhere in that general area because thats close to the firewall where your fresh air comes in, good luck on that...

I'm on 3rd manifold on my 780/D13 2008. The emission BS is causing high back pressure, i replaced flexible pipes also, but since i installed the new one piece manifold works better, no leaks. I used to sleep with the motor idling and woke up with strange headache,; i installed a fire,smoke/carbon monoxide alarm and went off a couple of times; Be careful with this exhaust leaks, can kill you sleeping; especially if you have one of this new emission high back pressure ; i strongly recommend you to stop at Wall-Mart,Lowes,Home Depot and buy a smoke/carbon monoxide/fire alarm.

high backpressure is problem of D11/D13/D16, but not of D12.

so I sugest HVAC sucks air mixed with cranckase gas from under hood. as I remember in 2000-2005 there was TSB about cranckase vent system conversion on FH and VN trucks. Let me find document
