Exhaust pipe flex cracked

Sold by the foot at parts houses.
Their are two types of flex pipe sold.
Stainless steel is the better of the two it does not rust .
But it aint cheap either
Myself I always used the red Locktite muffler tape on all joints.

A good chop saw makes this an easy fit .....
Watch your hands this stuff is sharp ..

 

Doesn’t look like a standard 5” flex pipe. It’s specific to the engine. Looks like its rotted/broken at the flange.

 

I'd be fixing that ASAP those fumes are nasty and will make you sick.

 

That’s not standard flex pipe. It’s fluted on both ends and made to go in that spot.

 

I remember those breaking early on in the day, and had to put up with it. Detroit fumes were the worst. I kept a couple of those clamps in my tool box just for that reason. Diesel fumes do more than make you sick, they can kill you,,

 

I wouldn't trust a used flex pipe. It's a wear part. $500 is a cheap truck part!

 

True, but one could cut out the flex and use new flex with band clamps (like the one in the pic) on each end. Or have a shop weld on new flex. Have a Toyota that had flex after the manifold pipe, all connected as one piece to the converter. New part was $1,500 discounted and I did not want to buy an aftermarket converter. Shop installed a new section for about $150. Interesting how the exhaust sound changed after that, much louder, and the section replaced was only about 6-8 inches long.

 

Well $500 for the part, have the dealer put it on.

If you have a road side inspection, you’re screwed, it is an OOS order and a service call or a tow. They will not let you drive it.

 

No way!! Come on it’s only 2 clamps. half hr job max. Tap it a bit with a hammer as you tighten it up. Re check it hot. Buy a steak dinner, pair of shoes, and a case of beer with the labor money saved.
