Ok TMC drivers, I start CDL school next week. I've been reading this forum forward and backward for about a month. TMC is one of the companies near the top of my list.

I have only one question. I live in Ohio, halfway between Cleveland and Toledo. Is 35K a reasonable first year earnings expectation. I would need to hit that or better to make this a worthwhile endeavor.

Thanks in advance for the comments.

I think you can expect that if you are willing to run a little. Don't see any reason why you can't. It is a little slow still because of the economy, which is supposed to be recovering.

$40k is def possible for a new guy if you have good time management and want to work. lots of steel in that general area, also there is a shingle mfg near Norwalk and a wallboard mfg near Port Clinton. watch out for DOT along route 2 lol, they are hammering drivers.

Thanks for the responses. Every CDL school recruiter told me 35k to 45k, but they answered too quickly like they were reading a script. That's why I wanted to hear it from the drivers.

carterbeauford, I'm close to Sandusky and familiar with both of those mfg's. And you're right about DOT lol, I see them prowling around all the time!

Another thing. Mileage or percentage pay? I know it's been discussed in other threads, but given the present conditions which do you recommend?

Do the seasonal changes associated with freight have any bearing on which is the better option?

    Any .02c would be appreciated.

Unless you are an experienced driver, I'd recommend starting on the percentage plan. After 6-12 mo. you may want to take another look at it.

And regarding your 1st post, I will tell you that during my 1st full year w/TMC (2009) I earned slightly over 38K gross. I was home most weekends for at least 34hr reset. This year I'm on track to gross over 44k. I've been home for at least 34hr reset nearly all wkends; haven't missed one for over 3 months now.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a cheerleader or anything. There's a lot of things that don't make me a happy camper, many things could use much improvement, but it's work, and work IS a four-letter word. Bottom line is if you are a new driver TMC ain't a bad place to earn your stripes. From what I've heard, there a lot worse places you could start out at.

Just my .02 and your mileage may vary - literally.

I got out there once during my first 6 months, well 3 times really, if you count the trips I made out there w/my trainer. I'm on sort of a regional/dedicated deal now, so no chance to get out that way now.

Well, I've never worked for them. I've been in line with them to get loaded with shingles and such. The drivers I've talked to were all happy with where they were.

I will say one thing, they sure have purdy looking trucks.

Did Mr. Annette take the company back or is his son still running the camp, I started out there in mid 90's was pretty nice place to work. If you go % watch your out of route and they used to have lots of traps to count against your % but all in all pretty fair with loads also learn to bank miles to get home with out lots of out of route. Is Todd Bunting still running safety?
