Hello. How much does a rookie in NY / NYC make on average their first 6 months? And first year.
Is $500 a week for the first 6 months normal?
Is 0.44 normal?
I don't really have a concept of how things work after working for a $ / hour basis.
Thank you.
Expected NYC / NY wage

I have no clue. But I know If someone told me they'd pay me $500/wk to drive NYC I'd spit in their face and piss on their grave.
Hope this helps

So what would be a decent salary? I have called some companies and that's what they offer for NY / NYC. One told me they will pay for $500 Manhattan. I live in the 5 boroughs but got my cdl outside of NYC. I just feel like driving in Manhattan as a rookie is asking for trouble. Especially with the cyclists.

500 a week is basic pay. Trucking is feast and famine on mileage. It varies. If you run reefer and go into NYC, chances are it's going to be hunts point from the GWB crossing.
When a trucker has decade or more of expeirence that one becomes a trainer and draws salary which works out to 1500 a week give or take net. Provided his or her students continue to pass tests and excel. Which was my experience anyhow long ago.
Wages failed to follow inflation. 500 a week on 25% was what I made running NYC and the NE LTL during the 80's fast forward to 2000's mileage pay pretty much doubled and many companies still paid 30's per mile which is about half of what it should really be for good drivers. Immigrants coming over to drive as well. They can be taken for cheap and don't know it.Artness Thanks this. -
I'm from Brooklyn NY originally lived there 21 years and I know very well how the traffic and drivers are. The worst part is the traffic, congesstion and knowing your way around. I used to hear pple say NY drivers were bad untill I drove into Texas. Honestly I wouldn't do it for 500. Maybe for a small box van. But for a semi to navigate thru all that traffic and possible docks you would have to back into forget about it. You'd have to pay me 2k a week to get me interested.
I mean you got to balance everything out.
RISK/ REWARD.
If this is a carrier you like and want to do till retirement. Your better off working out of jersey.
Good luck making a decision.Artness, Mattflat362 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Anyhow... traffic. I'll say that part of my history on the 95 is from fighting with the people around me and the toll barriers that are no longer there. East River is also something of a problem. It really does not get any better into conn.
If saftey was to pull the crash stop braking data from my trucks on the cross bronx all these years I drove, they will find dozens of events where we went from 70 to nothing in about 7 seconds average. Or horsed the truck around the offending car. The reasons why the car will be there is sometimes insurance fraud. Other times is a blatant hit me you big trucker...
If all the problems Ive had in the entire USA, it will happen on that cross bronx if anywhere. Ive been very lucky because being born and raised using DC as a training ground, NYC was managable.TommyTrucker88 and Artness Thank this. -

I have been calling some companies and they said they will have me go with a trainer. I heard from people that once you have a trainer you have to finish the training or they will charge you a fee. I am assuming this is training how to do a route? Since I have the cdl already.
They said it will go on for 28 days. After that they said I will be a student in a contract.
