What would be considered a good pay rate hired on as a company driver with a small company hauling local/regional, mostly DDG's in a hopper bottom grain trailer? The owner usually pays by the mile for OTR, example: $0.32/mile, but has'nt had anyone hired on for just local/regional hauling. Would'nt it be more fair paying a percentage on local, shorter runs? What might that be? Benefits included? What could I expect for an average annual income?

    Thanks,
    Fritz

I'm in South Central Minnesota. Just unsure about an hourly wage? How do you determine when you're on the clock?

we use the honor system, my boss pays from when I leave the house till I get home, if I stop for lunch, or stop to chat for an hour I take it off at the end of the day. Just trained a new guy told him to use his judgement, if he's working, he's getting paid.

Local in the SE paid 25%-30% for hoppers, live floors, and dumps when one driver picked up and delivered. But if your just delivering loads others stage I would say hourly is more likely.

hourly wage depends on experience, I know dumps in Middle TN started off at 9/hour and topped at 12 becasue there alot of dummies that needed jobs that didn't require much thinking. I'm not very familiar with the markets in MN, maybe 10-15/ hour depending on your experiance and how capable you are of running there truck profitable (good mainanence, fuel mileage, DOT violations, ect..)

I work hourly which is way better than mileage or percentage. Keep in mind when you go to these plants to pick up DDG or drop off grain you could go in and out really quick or there have been times that Ive waited up to 4 hours in line cause they are close to getting full or something broke. WHatever the reason if you can go hourly.
