This is interesting. Saw an add for an expediter. They have tractor trailers. But the add was for straight truck. The straight truck has one of those big condo's on it. I had to call...
I have 7 years straight truck experience. Going through CDL school for upgrade to A. Graduate Dec. 20th.
This expediter talked me out of it. Told me I should go through school and get the A. But then, the one years experience is kinda part of the schooling. Need to get that after school. Then I can do whatever I want. Even with him. If I wanted to move up to tractor trailer after working there. They couldn't do it due to no experience. They don't train. So get the schooling and experience. Then... we can talk.
It is interesting. Says his drivers only work 4 to 5 days a week. Make 1k to 1.2k a week. They get 40% of the load. So they spend 2 to 3 days waiting around in a part of the country where they expect to get something.
Expediter talked me out of it...

Did the person you talked to have the power to hire & fire?
Probably several expediter companies will hire you after you upgrade to CDL-A.WesternPlains Thanks this. -
I'm not sure. The extension was for Safety/Recruiting.
One thing I didn't put in the OP. The truck they have available right now is a team truck. I'd need a team mate.
He did admit their 96" condo doesn't have a toilet/shower. It adds too much weight. But it's got lotsa room! Plenty of room to freak out while the other person is driving. hehe -
When does school start?

Most otr companies still want otr experience. Local drivers might have the experience operating the equipment but start crying for mama when they're 1,200 miles from home, days at a time.
Had a guy start with the company that had been driving for 15 years. Drove an automatic for the last ten years. Couldn't shift a ten speed to save his life. He lost it over the past ten years. Too bad. The job paid $300 a day. Off on weekends and Holidays. -
I've only been driving a 13 speed for the last seven years.
When I started in B. Guy had me go up a 15% grade. Just told me it's a hill. If I lose it, he'll jump over and take control.Started bogging down from max rpm's. I dropped it two gears. It fell right in. Went the rest of the way up the hill. I asked him: Was that ok? He broke into laughter and said: That's just how you're supposed to do it. ... I had only driven a regular car or PU standard before that. Never a real truck. And it was over 20 years earlier last time I did. Now how could somebody lose the ability to operate a standard transmission? It's like riding a bike. Once you do it. You always remember.
I guess some just have to post negativity?Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
Nothing negative about it. Some people forget. You went from a 13 speed to a ten speed. It is still shifting. He went for ten years without shift. Some people forget, just like some people forget that there is a trailer behind them. He could have been retought and it may have only taken a week. We didn't have the time so we went with the next guy.
I spent three years in an 18 speed. When they put me in a 10 speed, I spent the first week trying to skip 6th gear.Farmerbob1 and RedRover Thank this.
