It is like anything else. It is more a matter of being in the right place, at the right time. If all your stars line up right, then you are in. If not. . .
Of course, it helps to know somebody on the inside. But then that can turn into a double edged sword. IE: Say your brother in law owns the company. (You're married to his sister.) Sis suddenly gets a case of the red arse at you and dumps you, telling her family what a total jerk you are, how you are a substance abuser, a thief, and a dirty chicken plucker. That could negatively affect the way the boss looks at you. . .
It always makes me wonder what happened, when I see somebody say how much they loved working someplace. It always sucks to get laid off, but if it is from someplace you are really happy, then it just sucks that much worse.

Well I didn't get laid off from estes. Saddly it my my onw stupidity. They cut my money making run and made a meet turn out of it. Once that happened the senior drivers took it n left me with a less paying bid. Thing is I still had a bid run n was in my own bed every night. I've made a few stupid job decisions in my life n that was one of the big ones. The union carriers have laid me off. -
Currently running Montgomery to Oklahoma and back. Occasional run through to Rialto Ca. After Oklahoma its a toss up as to where we get sent, Dallas, Memphis,South Holland, St Louis, Harrisburg etc. About to loose my spot as Im running with my team mates seniority. So back to the extra board running all over hell and #### nation when freight is available. Only bonus to that is the mileage pay is better (when we are running).

Have done a bit of everything. Started as dock w/cdl then ran the city as needed during the summer, constant Yonkers BS then opted for the road. So far so good and yeah it will be nice to get our freight back, now all we have to do is get the outside carriers out of our yard.

Yonkers is fairly easy, but Ive been there for years, grew up there, family there, old Fedex route there etc. Although I never ever went to the bad areas, not to be racist of any kind but they usually dont welcome white people there... Ive heard plenty of gun shots too. They been sending me to Yonkers lately but usually the nicer parts. I pretty much go everywhere in westchester. Would like to do the road but Maybrook is a bit far for me, but if I have to transfer its either there or Brooklyn, Id rather Maybrook and just do the road.
Not another company using outside carriers... I know Old Dominion pulls all their own freight. Found out that we at YRC now pull our own freight now, they say the claims went down ever since they got rid of the outside carriers. Even though its loaded by our own crew, those drivers just dont care and they will blame it on our loading etc... -
