Friday I walk into work, asst steward says no work today here's your check, ok that's fine because I was able to get some stuff done, wish he would've called me that morning so I could sleep later and not have to make a trip towards there again but what ever
Today is very slow as well. Had one delivery full pup to the county bus line which took some time then an early pickup. Go back to yard and I am given a home depot which they normally don't give till later in night since this one is a bit of a pain. Now I'm on hour lunch break with one pick up coming up. Don't mind it slow Monday's as I have my personal trainer every Monday and weDnesday
This morning I see the guy from the locals car. I think nothing of it. As I walk in I'm getting dirty looks from the TM and the addy steward was giving me a bit of a cold shoulder. After I clock in the union rep pulls me aside and said he had taken care of it. He says get your surgery you need and take as much time as u need off after it. When I told him what happened last week he said don't worry, you have your drs note stating you need surgery on file here. See what happens I guess. I dropped freight off a broken lift gate on the POS straight job a few months ago and they threatened to fire me. But me being smart when I always wrote that POS up I always made copies. That's how I pulled my hamstring muscle a few months ago.

Tm was still giving me attitude later in the day when I got back, asst tm/dispatcher was his usual self, no different acting(the one who fought for me) When I got back to the yard the asst steward asked to speak to me, said nothing bad, went in and turns out I need to do my haz-mat training which is NBD do what I gotta do. Then we bs'ed for about 10 minutes like normally so Im guessing maybe he was just having a bad morning so hes off the hook lol. But the TM is still being a bit of a hard ### towards me. Well what ever, you want the shop stewards and the asst tm/dispatcher to be on your good sides, as the shop stewards fight for you and the asst tm/dispatcher hands out and sets up the work. And like I said the asst tm/dispatcher did fight for me when I needed it, as he knows I will get eveything done and if any problems I always call

Wow. When I worked for Yellow 2006-2007 they were scared of drivers getting hurt. They never gave anyone a dirty look or attitude. They always kissed our butts and made sure everything was ok. Always made sure we took our lunch and had plenty of hours left to work. Things sure have changed. At my Reddaway barn people get away with murder. They call in sick, show up late, can't count how many times I've seen drivers neglect things and if we get hurt they send us to a doctor right away. They are always in our corner asking how we are doing and if we are feeling better after being sick or being hurt on the job. I have to say I have a really cool TM though. I did at Yellow too. If it gets too bad ACH you can always make that anonymous call to the DOT.

how would the DOT help me out though? not too sure but you seem to know better than me
Anyways worked only Monday this week. Was called tues and wed to not come in. I went down there, other drivers harassed the two of us saying what you dont feel like working? turns out they had plenty, had about 10-12 stops each! they could easily take some off and make another route up. They ask me this morning that if I want to work I have to go into Brooklyn. I said no thanks as I dont not even know how to get there lol. I only been to brooklyn once in my life. Then the main shop steward said I can go to another terminal close to my dads house next week which I might do since I got some chores to do around there -
Well YRC isn't known for having the best equipment, maybe they had a spill or logs are over hours hint hint. That's why I mentioned the DOT. It's more just to pay them back if you're into that. I had CRST tell me they weren't going to fix my axle till I got back to the yard. I told them they were gonna fix it or they could get someone else to pull their UPS freight and I'll be sure to let the DOT know what they said about the axle. About an hour and a half later I was back on the road with axle fixed and new trailer brakes. You know it's like calling child services on an ex girlfriend who has a kid after she took you for a large sum of money and cheated on you. Haha I read that in this book called "How to Get Revenge" Anyway, if they wanna mess with you, I say push back with all you have. Get creative. The union has lost a lot of power and will only go so far for you. They are more interested in getting a pay check (union dues) than helping us mere workers.

You could also threaten them with discrimination. You got hurt on the job, it happens. If anyone has a problem with that tell them to shove it up their @?? and then say "Lawsuit" That should get them off your back. If they fire you then sue for wrongful termination and discrimination. Just keep records of everything that's going on. Bring a little not pad and keep it on you. When they mess with you start writing everything down right in front of them. Dates, times, names and what they said or did. Trust me, they will take notice and know you're not messing around. Also keep complaining to the union so they have a record of it too. Will all be good ammo if you have to go to court. Don't let them push you around. We still have some rights left here in America, so use them while you have them.
airforcetoo Thanks this. -
Ah I gotcha cool35. They are afraid of DOT as I heard Friday that the dispatcher was telling everyone to avoid the DOT check go a different route. I was speaking to the main shop steward Friday as I got a chance to speak to him alone without the asst there who was out. I told him EVERYTHING that was going on and he is P@SSED!!! I didn't have work but he said if I was clocked in he would have a meeting between me, the managers and himself being there. Since he's still in might duty and can't drive he's stuck in the office most of the day. He told me he would've taken me as his helper for the day if he could drive as he's done it before with others. When there's a work issue he doesn't mind talkin about it to me if I'm off the clock but won't bring it up to management unless I'm on the clock. He did see if he could temp transfer me till it's busy again but had no luck.
I would like to stay on his good side. He don't care how screwed up someone does something but as long as you tell the complete god honest truth he will defend you. Still don't know how to te him I might be leaving to return to school though, I'm sure they'd all understand. Now I'm thinking of going for diesel mechanic and auto body at wyotech. If I go the diesel route afterwards I can always return as a mechanic for YRC -
Well that's true. Are you getting sick of trucking? Or is it because things are slowing down? Seems to be getting slow out here too. Is the union contract coming up soon? Seems YRC has a habit of slowing down when that happens as do other union companies. Not that they really have to use that excuse with all the trouble they've been in. I'm sure the contract will probably stay the same or get worse. They have the bad economy on their side.
I guess on the bright side, when the unions collapse, our jobs will stop going over seas and everyone will have work. Only difference is we will be making 4 bucks an hour and working 50 hours a week with no benefits to speak of. -
Depends what kind of trucking there is. There's a lot of jobs out there that you can make a ton driving a truck. They are all over a hour away from my house or more plus tolls. If I get the job with my dads friend I'm pretty much set for life. I'm looking to go to school to learn other trades. I believe the contract isn't up for another year or two. Things have gotten real slow and I'm trying to stick it out but need money for bills. At least I'm able to work another Jon though so that's a plus

I don't know if it's just me but it feels like something bad is about to happen. I just have this weird feeling the economy is gonna crash or something else. Hopefully just all in my head. Things are really slowing down out here. People seem really pissed off too. My aunt was forced to retire last month and now my step dad. They were just the 2 I know of but heard there where several others. Now i hear FedEx is gonna be cutting back. I'm starting to think YRC doesn't have a chance. Hopefully you get that job with your dads friend.
