I heard, all you go to is Chicago railyards for like first 3 years. Is this true? Yeah, I gotta make a decision this fall. YRC still can't make money. I also thought about getting out of the shipping biz and driving for a private company. Kinda sucks having so many options, hard to decide. Maybe I'll just have to flip a coin then go with it.
Rumor is true, few states to the east is the same situation. Waiting for the choo choo train after 8 is easy money, but simply put, It's still browns way or the highway, Trying not to hijack the YRC thread.
I've made several trips to "CACH" the huge UPS facility next to willow springs rail, it's an easy run. They have sent me to Jefferson St, downtown chicago. Also Columbus OH (right accross 70 from YRC, same exit). They tell you it's pretty much anywhere anytime when you're seasonal. Best part is, the meter is running every minute. I drove for a private company before this and they couldn't get their act together, put too much on the drivers, the "mechanic" didn't fix anything, he farmed it out or did nothing. Trucks were crap, dispatchers were terrible. A group of buddies "hanging out" instead of working. They tried to get me to take jumper cables with me once to jump the electric tarp on the dump bed because the cord was going bad!! I refused. Started planning my escape.
I had a yrc guy ask me of we are hiring today. Another 23 year veteran who's had enough... One good thing about YRC is they used a lot of pups. Was great learning unknown areas. My company now sends me out in places where 48s and 53s don't belong.... You don't know your skills till you gotta maneuver these streets. Although out east you can do itit
This made me chuckle. Running 80/90 and saw a triple with a yrc, yellow, and a roadway trailer. As much as I run this I've never seen that.
The other day a driver told me the same thing out of stl/621. Its absolutely amazing what business this company is doing compared to where they were. They seemed to have given a lot of business up to competitors with that screwed up merger. And whats with the YRC name? I can't think of a more brand recognizable name like Yellow or Roadway. If you walk into a business now and say Yrc here for pick up/ delivery they'll go "who?" almost every time. I understand this day and age a lot of companies asked for give backs to help with the trying times but this place keeps asking and still bonuses the top of the company millions. I give this place ten years then they're closing up or severely reducing in size. The federal government is going to start mandates this company is going to have to comply with causing major cash investment that's going to come from where? I understand that it was good, too bad its never going to be the same. Its almost like people that run this company want to see the unions go at the expense of everybody and that the union will just ride this flaming ship to bottom instead of forcing the company into a reorganization that's good for all.
Hi Every Body,, I've been with Reddaway since 89. And it's been a pretty good haul. Started with LA terminal for the first two years. And then with the Fontana, CA yard ever since. First 8 yeqrs of Fontana going sleeper team to Medford, OR. And then back single driver to Willows,CA. So I've seen a lot of history with Reddaway. Just thought that I'd make myself known.
I work for Reddaway in Denver Colorado. I started in Jan 2014 as line haul but took a Local P&D job. Starting pay is 18.05 and overtime after 8. GREAT company and Im glad to be here
