Cool35, I wonder why you don't buy a used truck and drive under some company's authority, that provides all the paper stuff too, since you don't need benefits and you don't sound like the type who needs somebody to make him go to work.

(sorry, if that's too far off topic)

Mt first job was for a contractor with North American Van Lines. I ran for him for 6 months and then was able to do a lease purchase through NAVL themselves to be an owner operator. I bought a 1994 Freightliner FLD with a Detroit 60. I ran for them for the next 6 months. I made an absolute killing. I moved people but it was a real pain in the a.. When winter rolled around I switched to high value products. I did a 1099 then but had a trucker smart accountant do everything. I sold my truck which I had already paid off and went to work at CF. Smart move wasn't it? lol Anyway, I'm not into being gone 2-6 weeks at a time anymore. That's why if I do go otr, it's dedicated or home every week. When I was an owner operator the money making runs were movers, heavy haul, over sized, specialized and car haulers. There are others if you look hard enough. I know in Texas they have a lot of good paying owner operator runs that are home a lot. To be honest, once my daughter graduates high school and if the economy is in good shape, I'd really think about it again. These 90 cpm companies are a joke. I don't know how guys can make any money at it. They are working to pay for the truck. On high value products I made 1.60 a mile and on moving I made around 85% of the haul approx. To give you an idea, in 6 months I grossed $132,000. That was really good money in 1999! That's good money now.

Whoa, Got the call. I'm laid off. 2 bids were cancelled and now 2 guys on the extra board. Oh well, hopefully back to YRC in the spring. Hopefully the economy will improve and I'll have enough seniority to stay on through next winter.
