No linehaul at 150 what so ever. Nearest Big terminal is over 50 miles away with tolls. Dont feel like doing that drive either. Ill stick it out for the time being until something better comes up
I understand your frustration squonk. There's no way it'll be the same for you in 10 years. I've been here almost 10 years and very year I see myself moving up. Just to give you an example, I transferred to Chicago in April of this year and I've already moved up 50 spots since then. I know that Chicago is no comparison to 324 but I promise you will see a difference every year. The first one is always the worst. Hang in there brother.
Well all I have to say is, if the economy picks up, we will be in good shape. Since we already have jobs, we should move up quick. Wishful thinking. I'm still waiting for Reddaway to call me back in to work. So FedEx it is for now. I hope YRC can still manage ok through this recession.
Thanks guys, I feel much better. I've been through this before, so, you'd think I'd be used to it. Sucks to be the new guy, ESPECIALLY at a union place. I really should consider myself fortunate for getting hired with so little experience. A few years ago, I would NEVER have been able to get on at YRC. I'd be paying my dues at one of those super awful companies we read about. I'm also fortunate to be able to live on unemployment with no problem. You know what they say about idle minds? So, I will wine like a baby every so often. lol sorry
Are you officially laid off Squonk? It is slow everywhere right now. Well except the package companies. UPS and FedEx are moving right now. Been 3 trips to NJ and back to Los Angeles each week. Then twice after that up to Seattle and back to Los Angeles. I really need to check my log book. Been having to get creative, even though I'm running teams. Get a restart and back out! I'm burned out already. I haven't had a check under 1200 gross for the week but it is kinda tough. I was used to that easy money at Reddaway lol. Hopefully they call me back soon and hopefully this economy turns around. I know it is slow this time of year for most ltl companies but the economy is still not well either. Glad to see you keeping a positive attitude. You will move up. Good that you can survive on unemployment. I'd be on it myself but I can't afford to be on it.
Yup, been 3 weeks now. Get's rather boring at times. I'll be alright. Don't think I could of done this when I was young. Would of drove me crazy. lol Been spending alot of time on the Internet.
Have you ever thought about putting in an app over at UPS?? I know that UPS Brown looks for temp guys every year around this time. Could be something to keep you busy thru the winter until YRC calls you back. Just a thought
Yes, I've been thinking about calling them and telling them to change from 'soft' to 'hard' layoff so I'm not on call so I can go do some temp work. No call in 3 weeks so might as well.
UPS would be good for some money as a temp, only problem is you will be DONE on the 24th... Yea If I were in your shoes squonk id be ok with slow work. But I like to go out and stuff so I need more money lol. Its starting to slow down here quite a bit too. The guy below me wasnt supposed to work today but did because one guy was late. He was really appreciative. Day was slow as well, I got back to yard at 345 and sat for 30 minutes because they were putting more deliveries on a trailer for me. Normally it would be pickups but there wasnt any out there. Going to my first stop on that street my trailer caught electrical lines jerking the truck and my neck... the truck ripped to pole in HALF!!! I pulled over, called the steward and reported it, and then the transformer caught fire. Called 911 they came, cop was really cool, even the capt of FD was cool and he even told the cop he had been reporting the low lines on the street. WHen the other cop came for the report she was actually really really cool and friendly. Guy from the stop I was going to walked by and I told him I was going to him so he said Ill wait then since Im expecting your delivery. Whole thing took 90 minutes but no ticket or anything. Smashed my whole front of trailer. Skinny Im worried about getting layed off soon again as well. We dont even have enough trucks for the drivers we got now Cool35 Big difference from Reddaway and Fedex. Reddway is much easier on you it seems. Glad you'll go back though, I wont return to fedex though as a package driver, too much work for such little pay... unless they unionize Well off subject but my old CWF terminal had the D.O.L. called on them for the way they treat employees. Drivers Im friends with all told me this and said its a better atmosphere. Serves them right
Done. (Dedidcated OTR) Filled out application online (only 1 available). Thought about applying for 'Driver Helper', but, not sure how hard that work would be (I'm a fat old guy).
