Boy, I got some good news today. Since I worked this week, it fell within the 15 days after Thanks Giving and 15 days prior to X-Mas, so, I get holiday pay for both holidays. How cool is that? lol

Sorry about your injury ACH. Hope you heal up soon. I would say if you want to join the military go Air force. I had a few friends in my time that were in there and loved it. All they did was kick back and you get good training. All 3 of them are nurses and were making bank! Yes they were men too. Making 3x or more what I make. I was in the Navy and would gladly never have done it. Just remember, when you join the military, you are there to do what you're told. That is the first order of business in there. If you have time, they will train you in something, if it is available. I have yet to use my GI bill. Only thing I ever go to the VA for is medicine or a cold, minor things. I'll never let them cut me open!

The emt to paramedic ladder seems interesting too. Although, they say burn out is high. Nursing opportunities, wages and benefits are outstanding, but working with women, in an environment where they are clearly dominant seems like an extremely challenging job. Almost makes truck driving seem like a cake walk. Still, I think military nursing is different. I've heard that around 1/3rd of nurses in the military are male.

"I’ve been a male nurse for 15 years...I am hated by my female peers.... When I float to ICU, none of the female nurses will talk or acknowledge me in any way. However, when my shift is over they are like flies on stink going over my notes looking for problems."

Wow that's weird. My wife is a nurse and works with a lot of male nurses. She says they are all friends. I couldn't do that job, just because of puke, poop, pee, etc. Yuck!
