So I started my career with werner. short lived about 3 months. I have been driving belly dumps for road base and asphalt, as well as super dump with 4 axels. Over wieght permits would allow super dump to haul 97000. Tractor was 110000. But was construction company in rural area in Colorado and could also be in loader one day water truck another day, fuel/service truck another day. Or multiple trucks in a day. Now for my questions? Are otr companies going to look at me as an experienced driver? Because I won't ever train with another driver again otr. I have been offered jobs hauling crude oil, but not interested in man camps and hard to believe you really make 400 bucks a day. Gotta decide in within week. THOUGHTS ADVISE AND OF COURSE CRITICISIM?

Don't keep your idea limited to megas. You're messing with your DAC. And they usually won't accept locals without recent otr in the last 3 years. If you really want otr. Find companies that don't play with your DAC.
When the economy crashed. Along with the local wages. I hit the road with a local company. Owned by a married couple.
Oil is one of the best paying gigs one could have. There's no man camps around here. And yes it CAN pay $400 per day. Although it did take a cut when the oil industry went down.
My bro in law has been trying to get me to haul oil. I have no desire to play in the mud, throwing chains, drive the same circle every day, and wearing special uniforms. It pays good but you defenitly earn what you make.
I also don't want the night shift, and wandering around till I know where all the wells are at. Defenitly not during winter.Lepton1 and Oldironfan Thank this. -
How long have you had your cdl.
Do you still live in Colorado?Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Yes have had cdl 5 years. Most of my experience is on snowy muddy Mt roads above 10000 ft. I will go from 18 speed to 13 speed to 10 speed regularly. Hauling very heavy. I believe I can drive circles around most Otr drivers. Like snowy says I need to show 3 years otr experience. Yesterday hauled 34 tons of asphalt to 12000 feet 7 times in super dump. But when talking to recruiters I am a newbie. This is only reason I would consider crude oil. They are really the only companies that seem to be intrested.

W.W. Transport might hire you. They have a terminal in Denver and many other places.
www.wwtransportinc.com
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Navajo Express - in Denver maybe! Call and find out or do the online application.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Abilene Motor Express - hires all over the USA. Trucks run 72 mph.
They hire drivers that haven't driven in years as long as they have a cdl and current DOT medical card.

Here's some more you can contact, but I'd try the other 3 I listed first.
Super Service
Transport America
Western Express
Titan Transfer

Don't go by what's on the websites of any company I've listed. All these bend the rules and hire drivers that have a cdl and either no experience or no OTR experience. -
Thank you Chinatown. Will apply to Navajo and W.W today. I’m in weird situation. I make between 800 and 1100 a week after taxes and am home every day with family. I really can’t complain. I’m in a lot of debt and need at least double the money to even come close to making it worth leaving. AM I CRAZY to think I can do that with my kind of experience. I am also considering used tractor to try and up my earnings. I do ok but want more. Without a shop I wonder how I could manage a truck too.

You'll make more than that with W.W. Transport. You won't make any less, for sure.
Not sure how the pay is at Navajo Express in comparison to what you need or want.
Job satisfaction sometimes may not pay the bills, but it sure makes life easier with less stress.
Maybe join www.OOIDA.com before buying a truck. This way you can find out about insurance costs and other matters concerning being an owner-operator.
