experienced driver wants to tell newer drivers some things

I just spoke with a driver such as yourself today. He was upset that he was put into a new truck this week. He liked his old 379 and didn't want the T660 they gave him. He also complained about all the new advancements and gauges in the truck that he couldn't work.

I told him that 50 years ago guys were probably complaining about getting a truck with that new fancy thing called air conditioning too LOL

 

50 Years ago not too many trucks with A/C. Late 70's to mid 80's it started being a LUXURY , today its an EXTRA $ to have it deleted when ordering a vehicle.

I was in a KW dealer years back , fairly new driver was telling the service rep that his A/C was not working properly he wanted it 60'F in the cab , best it would do is 65'F. Old guy sitting there laughed and said , I use to be happy if I could get the windows get rolled down in summer and hopefully stay up in winter.

 

Than you very much. I am a new driver but I am 60 years old. Not that that means anymore than I simply have some life experience. Anyway you mentioned the inexperienced drivers arguing with the veteran drivers? You were absolutely right almost every trade that I know of requires a four(4) year apprenticeship. I think your post was spot on... Thanks again.

 

this makes me appreciate my company. I am new, and expected way less than I got. I started in an older truck and was quite happy with it when they called me in to pick up a new one. Im happy with the new one as well, although the new engines are not as good in my opinion. I have a tv, fridge and microwave. I don't have time to watch the tv, the microwave and fridge saves me time and money. I can haul about 43000 lbs without being overweight, and never ran into needing more. The new truck sometimes requires me to trim fuel though. I do show everyone I meet respect, and would like to learn as much as possible from experienced drivers. I normally have no idea who is new and who is experienced on the road. I see people I am pretty sure are experienced acting like fools, then again I see many fools everywhere I look. my point is, even as a new driver, I am very happy with the salary, the truck, and even the lifestyle. The company deserves the best I can offer them, so do the other people on the road, (yes even the fools). I don't deserve their respect and overall they are respectful. Thanks.

 

have known a few drivers with 27 years exp and they still are not qualified to drive. sure they can pass the test, but they should never be behind the wheel of a truck.

(BTW) seeing that you are from OK. you automaticly qualify for the chain drive wallet, as for the fingerless gloves we will have to wait and see.

 

I am with you on most of these things. I am on my change of career from farming to trucking (yes, they overlap a lot, but I am still a rook).

However, auto transmissions... They go bad pretty quickly and are MORE expensive to repair than the Fuller 13 speeds that I love.

Thanks Bill. But I guess I'm not articulating right, plus I was tired of typing. I mean everyone should START with respect, but that's not on the same level as earned respect. Still doesn't sound like what I mean, but getting closer.
