I completely agree! I'm not as experienced as many but I know plenty of new drivers that think they've got it all down...I'm still learning after 10 years and don't see that stopping any time soon!

    Quite a few.
I worked for the "road and sewer" department City of Hattiesburg, MS for a year out of high school.
All our crew did was clean out ditches with shovels.
    Didn't like it much.

I also worked construction and drove a log truck, alternatingly, from 1985 to 1990.
Construction was during busy months, and driving was off months.
Did quite a bit of digging during those years.

I just laid in a 2' x 2' x 80' ditch/trench on our property last summer with a shovel and pick for a project I had to do myself.
Does that qualify as HAVING to??

    I can also:
Lay out a ditch using surveyors instruments.
Form and pour a concrete liner for a ditch.
Dig a ditch with a track hoe.
Treat life threatening injuries IN a ditch. (i have a degree in "ditch medicine")
Drive a truck without running into ditch.

hvxjim, BigJohn54, dracon and 18 others Thank this.

No bashing should be headed your direction (except from Lilbit because she's so accommodating) because you are correct.
I've always been of the opinion that you will always learn things. Some you may even learn from new drivers.
I've always said that the day you know everything there is to know about truckin' is the day you need to get out from behind the wheel as you are now a danger to yourself and everyone around you.

ronin, EZ Money and panhandlepat Thank this.

Ok medicine man... Good save, great follow up post. I'm less likely to ignore your posts now that you've proven to not take yourself so seriously. I found your op to be very vanilla and bland, and if I changed a few words it would fit any number of professions. Not earth shattering revolations that I expected with so many "thank yous" attached. I'm not easily impressed, however, your follow up post was very original, fresh and impressive.
