Which company has the best TRAINING for a new driver? FLATBED ONLY. Not asking for a debate. Just your opinion as an experienced driver. As a soon to be new driver I would like to go where I can get the best training. As to ensure me a SAFE and successful flatbedding career.
Thanks

From my research:
Central Oregon Truck Company
System Transport
Melton Truck Lines -
Thanks China, COTC said one year minimum. Melton sent me some info (they seem pretty good)
Waiting to hear from System. Looking for good training, and I do live on the west coast. -
I thought COTC changed their policy and hire students now. Maybe not. Wouldn't hurt to call.
Decker Truck Line shows you in their hiring area on their map. Don't know if it's for their flatbed division or not. I'd call them in case the website isn't up to date.
Always ignore "experience required" and apply to any company you like; the worst that can happen is not to approve your application.Lepton1, Pure.Genius, truckon and 1 other person Thank this. -
hey man i will tell you i hear some good things about melton truck lines! I will say one thing what ever you do DO NOT GO WITH BOYD BRO'S TRANSPORTATION OUT OF BIRMINGHAM AL, MELTON TRUCK LINE IS RIGHT DOWN THE STREET ! I worked for boyd bros for a little while and it was a joke! Promised me home every weekend and a minium of 2300 miles during winter and i avg 1500 miles a week! And i got home about 2 times a month and that was it! THEY TALK A GOOD GAME AND A LOW TURN OVER RATE! BUT ITS ALL B/S CUZ THEY HAVE ORIENTAION EVERY MONDAY MORNING AT 7AM AND ITS ALWAYS 15 TO 20 NEW DRIVERS GETTING HIRED EVERY WEEK! STAY AWAY FROM THEM THEY BAD NEWS!
Pure.Genius Thanks this. -
TMC has the best training hands down. Our securement is always overkill and safe. We learn how to do it right and have a good set of resources if you dont know how to secure something.

Watkins & Shepard has a flatbed division. Check with them. They have terminals in WA.
Lepton1, Pure.Genius and Calregon Thank this. -
Lonestar transportation is a good company. .

I disagree with wazup69d. My bf works for Boyd and loves it. Says his training was great and hasn't had issues with securing anything he's had to haul since going solo. He's home whenever he asks to be and while he's had kinda low miles it's due to electrical issues in his truck and an issue with his PeopleNet. Since that's been fixed he's only stopped running to come home.
Pure.Genius Thanks this. -
hey Drivers girl! hey iam glad your boyfriend likes boyd bro's! i didnt saying securement training wasn't good! They have a very good load securement class for rookies just getting intio flatbed! But see when i was hired on i was promised home every weekend they said i lived in the prime location to be home every weekend! And i had no issues at all with my truck or people net and i still want getting but and avg of 1500 miles per week! So you know and hey maybe i just had a bad fleet manager! i think that was the major problem! I had and ####### for a fleet manager! The first one i had they called a training fleet manager and had him for 6 weeks and he was great! He even told me that i was doing a great job and to keep doing what i was doing and i wouldnt have any problems at boyd bro's! Soon as i got the new fleet manager things went to hell in a hand basket. lol So think he was probaly the reason i wasn't getting home and wasn't getting any miles but idk for sure! Well tell yo boyfriend i hope boyd bro's works out for him and he has a pleasant experience with the company! Cuz i sure didn't! Hope he has better luck than me! tell him to stay safe and stay away from them lot lizards!lol have a good day sugga!
Pure.Genius and Drivers girl Thank this.
