I looked into adding a 4G internet stick to my T-mobile account to run my lap top without tethering through my cell phone. I want to keep the devices separate.

What can anyone tell me about their experiences using 4G (or even 3G) with Skype/Yahoo Messenger on a laptop? How does it work for you? How does the overall internet experience work for you?

I am not expecting T1 Broadband speed, by any means, but is it fast enough to be useable? Or is it "back to the 90's" and 28,800kbs type dial up speed?

    Thanks!

I've made a video Skype call while watching Hulu on Verizon 4G. My connection at the lowest was 3.2Mbps and 18Mbps at the highest. That is tethering through the Thunderbolt. I can still do Video Skype over 3G in a good area.

FWIW, Skype is absolute garbage compared to g00gle chat. I have used the 2 back to back (because the Skype is so bad)
I have them both with adequate success on the crappy split 1000ways bandwidth of PilotBj
I also have used them just fine on 3G sprint, both USB tethering and HotSpot with my Epic 4G
The few times I've gone to 4G, the speed is much slower, so I wouldn't necessarily buy into all. The 4G hype just yet...
