This forum has been so helpful in getting information as my husband starts on his new career. After seeing so many questions from newbies, I thought I'd share his experience. He left today to start orientation with Werner. ( A little scary after reading so much negative about the company here.) His choices were limited because of where we live in Florida but seemed like the best choice out Swift and Stevens. So far, so good. Bus tickets and hotel reservations all legit - which I guess is a good start. Hopefully I'll have more good stuff to share. 2 days of orientation and then 275 hours of training time. Thanks again for all those who shared their experiences.

You've come to a good place to find out questions you'll have once you weed through them. I hope you know that YOU play a vital role in his success. Both of your lives will change and you'll be stuck at home taking care of the home front so both of you are going to have your tough days.
If you receive one of those phone calls in the middle of the night when he just wants to talk I hope you'll understand. There's nothing more that pushed me past those days I wanted to just through in the towell to hear my wife on the other end giving me the support I needed at that time. And I hope he does the same for you.
For the first couple of years it's going to stretch your limits to the max. Just remember it will get better and this board is always here. Good luck and hang in there. -

Thanks for all the words of encourgement. We expect that the first few years will be hard but after having him support me in my career, I realize that it is now time for him to pursue what he wants to do. So far the training/orientation has gone well, He was just notified that he could get a call as early as today to meet up with his trainer. There was talk of him partnering with a trainer that has a dedicated run. Not sure where. Would this limit him in getting his 275 hours in or is it better because the work will be steady?

Just a quick update....hubby finished the orientation on Friday and finally got a call today from his trainer. He should be on the road in an hour or two. He was a little frustrated that he sat in the hotel for 3 days and would have appreciated the heads up that he would not be leaving until Tuesday. Well, maybe it was me who was frustrated. Our home is only 2 hours from the hotel and I would have happily picked him up or travelled to him but his student manager kept telling him "it could be anytime now". Doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence in their honesty or organizational skills. Again, more my frustration than his. He is more determined than ever to finish the ride. He statement that no matter how long it takes he is completing his mandatory 275 hours just confirmed what I already knew. He is wonderful man and I am extremly proud of him.
