Been awhile since I have been on here but I left my local gig to try expediting (straight truck) for a fleet owner for Express-1. Does any one have any info they could share.

I do know they pay 60% to driver and 40% to owner with 100% FSC to driver also. Does this mean I (as the driver) have to pay for only fuel or do I need to up keep truck as well (tires, oil changes, etc.). Do they pay before the load goes out or after delivered? Straight trucks still keep logs as well right? Any other info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know for sure; what does your contract with the fleet owner say about fuel and truck maintenance? I would be reluctant to be responsible for maintenance on a vehicle I didn't own (or lease).

I recently saw a straight truck with Express-1 on it; didn't get a close enough look to see the details but I did notice a very large sleeper - maybe 96" deep? Are you going to run a pickup with trailer, a cargo/sprinter van or a straight truck? What's the typical trip length and are you need to run it as a team or can you do solo?

As far as logs go, I think that if you're operating within 150 miles of your terminal, you don't need a log but don't quote me on that.

Rick I do know that I will be in a straight truck operating (per express 1 and I conversation) everywhere. CT, GA, MN, MI , TX, thats a just a few they threw out. I will also be running solo. The fleet owner is calling me this morning to chat and will let you know what I find out.

Sounds like a standard contract. In a 60/40 split, the one getting 60 pays fuel. The truck owner pays all repairs. Tolls are up for grabs, most of the tme you can get the owner to cover them. As far as logging goes, it the same as a tt. Express 1 uses EOBR's. Besy of luck to you and enjoy the big sleeper....

Ok well everything is good to go. Driving Straight truck with lift gate. Owner will put in fridge and microwave but any and all else, including CB, is out of my pocket as for cab and sleeper. Is equipped with an APU. Nice plus. However the one thing i didnt realize is that payroll taxes and such are my responsibility, plus the other truck costs that are taken from my check. Does anyone have info on that? Just keep everything till the end of the year and then pay in?

The rest I will figure out as I go. I know it will be difficult for awhile but hopefully I will see something great coming in soon.

The truck has had a PM done and detailed. Someone definetely hit the right front pretty good. Hopefully I will get a new truck before long, depending on how he updates his fleet.

Welcome to the world of independent contracting. Depending on your income, you can probably pay taxes quarterly but if you are doing really well, you may have to pay them monthly.

You may have to provide your own form of worker's comp insurance or at the very least, confirm that if you were to get injured on the job, your own health insurance would cover you.

Don't know about the "other truck costs," you should get that spelled out in writing. That might include tolls, oil changes, tire repair, other preventative maintenance or getting towed if you have a breakdown on the road. Plates, insurance, etc., might end up out of your pocket as well if your owner gets greedy.

If you can, talk to other drivers with his fleet; find out how they're doing- miles per week, additional overhead, etc. If the Owner is promising 2000 miles a week but you're sitting at home or in a truck stop for 5 days, that's gonna make it hard to make money.

Find out about getting your own backhauls; will you have to fork over some of the revenue to your owner (or Express-1)?

    GOOD LUCK!
