beware of this company. my experience is that they omit information crucial to your paycheck when you sign on. they force you to buy your tarps from them at a cost of 5 to 750 dollars without prior knowledge. they also don't mention that if you leave before 91 days, you will have to pay back the air fare, which they inisist on sending you to get you there, and the motel fees, physical and drug test and any other expenses they choose to deduct from your last paycheck. this company is immoral, in my opinion and if you go there, you will work your last 2 weeks for nothing, guaranteed.
    they SUCK!

How long were you there for?
I would make you pay the airfare, motel physical, drug screen etc.too the company invested this money to have an employee not just a person that wants to quit after a short period of time.
If you bought the tarps and can prove it I hope that you took them with you.
I do not know why they would make you buy something to protect their loads I would of personaly took the tarps back and asked for a refund and said if I have to pay for them then you will not have any loads tarped and any damages to freight would be the compines resposibilty as I should not be reqiured to provide my own tarps I am not an owner operator.

My husband had to buy his own tarps as well.
Right now I am highly upset with this company, and if my husband could I would have him quit today!!! His truck broke down in N.M. This is a part of the interstate with no services for many many miles. His alternator belt broke, so needless to say, he has absolutely no power to even keep his fridge running. He is still out there and it has been over 40 hours. They say they are trying to find the belt, then they said they were sending someone out there, but this was last night. He has no fluids, no food since everything is spoiled now from no power, no way to cool off in 100 degree plus temps. I do not know how much longer they are going to keep him out there, but his life is in danger from the temperature extremes and lack of fluids.
If anyone is a pray-er, please send some his way, he can use all the help he can get.
I have notified the authorities in N.M. to see if they can at least get him some fluids, but I am highly angry at Expressway for this.

I am not sure what will happen next. This company sent the wrong part, so now they are putting my poor hubby in a hotel for the weekend and I guess they will get the part on Monday. This was so painful for me to know that he could have died out there and all because a stupid company wants to save money. Well this cost them a lot, because the load he was carrying was time sensitive. I feel better knowing my hubs will be safe in a hotel, but I am still very very angry at Expressway.

Tell your hubby to carry an extra belts so this will not happen again.

Also part of the pretrip inspection is to check all belts etc. so if he would of checked that and if it was cracked of frayed etc he should of got it fixed first before leaving.

I think your hubby should of called the dispatcher.

I would of not waited with the truck your hubby should of found a motel room and told the company that he was doing so like it or not if he was that concerned for his saftey.
I will not sit in a hot truck for any lenght of time.
If I had to wait for service I would of found a shady spot by the truck and that is were my happy butt would be.

Now I am not placing all the blame on him but he has to check the truck all of the time to make sure there should not be any breakdown during the trip.

Good idea. I may do that myself.

You're wrong on this one. We don't know the whole story. He may have done the pre-trip inspection, we don't know for sure. But idler pulleys can and do seize up. This may be what happened to him.

Well, he needed to do that anyway so they could repower the load if possible. If he did call, and they still did nothing, then shame on them.

Where would you find a hotel room in the middle of the New Mexico desert? If the original poster is right, and I have no reason as of yet to assume otherwise, then it would probably be a day's hike just to get to one.

Once again, assuming a seized idler pulley was his problem, that happens without warning, and could happen to anyone. Let's try to give the benefit of the doubt at first.

Some times idler pulley's give some warning they may glaze the belt or start melting it first before it breaks.

He inspected his truck. He does this all the time, so I know he would have seen if it was frayed or cracked.

As soon as it happened he called his dispatcher. He qual-commed it in as well. From the beginning they said they were looking for someone to get the serpentine belt to him. Then after most of one day, they finally told him they were sending someone out from the yard in Phoenix. This is a 6 hour drive. That driver was too tired and went to sleep around Tucson. He showed up yesterday at 11 a.m. (having been sent out at 5p.m. the day before)

As for hotel or shade...the only shade was by the truck, and the next "services" were over 9 miles away. He could not leave the truck because the windows were down and he had no power to even roll them back up.

As for now, he is in a hotel in Las Cruces because the company sent the wrong part to fix the tranny line.

I don't blame you for being angry - Mama Bears Claws come out when people start messing with our guys! I know how I would feel if this where my hubby. Remember though, try and stay calm when things like this happen. Its easier said than done, there have been plenty of times I've wanted to go rip someone's eyes out for my hubby, but I had to stay calm for him. Pre-trip, belts, etc. that's truckers (men) talking, at first I thought "How can you guys talk about pre-trips, when this guy is out in the desert with a broken down truck"!, they are used to stuff like this, they've heard it or seen it all. Your hubby will learn how to deal with this stuff as time goes by, for now, I'll say prayers for you both! Good Luck.................lori
