Considered that as well, believe it or not there's not a huge price difference. I'm limited to about 1,450ft/lbs of torque with this Super-10 as it is and it struggles to climb ###### near anything as it is with 390 gears.

I don't think it has anything to do with the trans. A 350 hp motor would do great with .390s. Remember, if you go putting too much power/torque through the transmission, the rest of the drive train will suffer. Tires won't last, the whole nine yards.

This does not do well climbing anything, trust me. I have spent 10yrs in the Oilfields of Western Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota etc. I've had plenty of trucks that will pull. This has 46,000lb Chrome Moly axles, both differentials are less than two years old, it has a new Fontaine 5th Wheel and a recent in-frame from Peterbilt in Dickinson, ND. The ONLY weak link is this Super-10. This truck does great from 1st-7th gear, it will pull a train, if I drove around in the mountains all day like I used to, this wold work just fine. I bought what I could afford and not what I wanted, I guess that was where I went wrong.

With all this said, I am looking for a 13-spd or an 18-spd. It will only go as fast as it will go, I understand that, the 390's leave me very limited. BUT, if I can set my cruise at 65-68 mph and just go without having to constantly downshift across Illinois and Indiana I know the fuel mileage will increase (somewhat) this is nothing but a torque issue, the 3406 has to work hard to maintain road speeds because the limitations of the Super-10. All it will take now is money to remedy the situation.

just my thoughts sounds like hp issue to me
I'd spend 3500 on ECM tune K&N air filters and fass fuel
Leave to boxes like thy are
the torque rating of the transmission is not making ur motor lug bud

1,450 is pretty weak. An extra 400 ft-lbs through a 3.90 rear will really make a difference up in the top gears.
