Once you got your antennae configured the way you like it and the whip is at its maximum practical height here's another way to increase the efficiency of your antenna by reducing inductance of loading coil by shortening the coil and adding a capacitance hat once you get into the realm of tunable coils like the ones I make.

OK, so what would you recommend for a longer shaft ? I do flatbed, my Wilson 1000 right now sits just under 14' from the ground. If go higher, probably will be hitting trees, bridges, etc, and may even bend the stinger at the tip.... Thoughts plz.

I've got to get off my butt and make some more really good antennas. with some of the junk out there getting some good money, there is room for things that actually work well.
Well if it works, leave it alone.
Nothing worse than having some smartbutt DOT cop get out his tape measure and measure the antenna because it looks too high.Ougigoug and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
My set up works extremely well. My radio it a Galaxy Pluto. I had the RFX75 behind install because according to Chris at the CB radio shop in Ontario CA.(Rabbi know him) the finals in my stock radio where shot. So he said instead of the stock 35 watts will install 75. And they did and also aligned the radio with what rabbi describes using to get properly done. With that been said, I have always received compliments on my clear sounding radio. But just like horsepower, one is always open to more either one. So that's why I ask, if longer is(more)better.

Since you are already at the 14-foot mark and the Wilson coil is not tunable there's not much you can do with that particular loading coil. The guys over at CB radio store in Fontana have an antenna called the Big AL and it is easy to disassemble and you can replace the stainless steel coil with a copper coil of any length that you choose which makes it a much more versatile antenna to reconfigure.
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
That antenna is basically a beefier version of the ones that I make for myself and what makes it unique is that you can put any length shaft and any length whip and tune the coil to match the rest. Not many people build antennas that way but The Machinist that makes all of my personal stuff is the same guy that makes the Big Al antenna

You refer to the BIG AL ANTENNA. I looked up the web site for the shop in Fontana and they give no particulars for the antenna just that they sell it. What type of antenna is it, in other words what does it resemble. Always want to improve, might call them and get a price and shipping cost. I won't be getting back out to Ca. until May-June.
By the way I think you can get a 20 inch shaft for a Wilson on their web site, but they don't recommend using one on a big truck because of the vibration. -
It is worthless as an antenna the way they sell it without a shaft, but it is a great source of parts to build an excellent performing antenna. Here is one that is heavily modified.
The original had an open stainless steel coil. Now it has an enclosed 8 Guage copper coil covered in shrink tube with a shaft I made. here are the critical parts you need to build your own custom antenna to any length you choose. Coil can be made to any number of turns.
all parts are 304 stainless steel.

Thank you Rabbi for the reply. Sounds like a starting point rather than a final product, I'll pass on this one. Thanks again.
