So you feel that flatbeds seem to get a little extra attention from D.O.T.?

It all depends what you're hauling. If you come in and you've got traps flying all over it's time to get inspected. If the load looks secure then maybe they'll move on. The only reason people say the inspectors look at flatbeds more is because the load is exposed.

They know what your weight is and they can see your securements. If you have a good looking load/tarp that is over secured then most of the time depending on the co's safety record you will slide on by.

I haven't had any issues. I usually get PrePass'd right by anyway. Like others said, if your tarps look good and your securement system looks good chances are they won't mess with you. I think it depends on your company's safety stats too. Roehl, Mercer, Mav, TMC, ect are a lot less likely to be targets than say SWIFT flatbeds.

You may want to check out Acme, they are a very good company.

While Im not totally familiar with the types of trailers that define flatbeds (FB, drop deck...etc...)...I do agree that they are more visible to the eye from the DOT. I was actually at a DOT POE that I have to go into each time I pass (no prepass set up). A flatbed came onto the scales and the officer said something like "does that look like a loose board? Well well, looks like I get to do my daily inspection"....or something to that effect.
