I'm not 100% sure, but if you can read WITH your glasses, I would imagine having glasses would be the stipulation on your CDL.
-
yep I have glasses and my CDL reads that must have them on....could be to look out for SWIFT trucks hah hahaha
-
If your vision is corrected to 20/40 with eyeglasses then there's no problem if you meet all the requirements. If they are not then no you can not drive. Don't believe what any school tells you and I hope you pass if you'd put any money out for school.
See FMCSR §391.41 (b) (10) for the regulation.Big Don Thanks this. -
One requirement you MUST follow though. Have an extra pair of glasses ON THE TRUCK with you in case you are asked to show them! I've had to show them during a couple of inspections and otheres I'm asked.
But in this business you can hit your face on something and break the pair or they fall off and break or even ,yep, sit on the stupid things and you're up a creek if you don't have that second pair!
I also recommend a pair of sun glasses. Not the cheap clip ons but a good pair of prescription ones! I've found over the years that the best "color" is the brown or copper as it makes colors look great and doesn't make every thing look colored as some lenses can do. And they are fantastic in the winter when there is snow on the ground! That reflection is a killer like on the water fishing
But with your glasses on the DOT exam is a piece of cake!Baack Thanks this. -
I agree that it shouldn't matter as long as your corrected vision with glasses is whatever is required in order to drive.
Also...yeah good idea to have another set of glasses, otherwise they will shut you down in case your existing pair breaks or you forget them at home..etc. -
i guess i didnt make thi clear lol no pun intended.... i cannot have glasses that correct this stigmatism it is non corrective with glasses i can see object out of it but cannot read .anything ....i can see the lights on the dmv test machine fine and they have always just ad me have outside mirrors now what i need to know is if they cannot correct it by glasses to 20 /40 is there a waiver i can put in for ?? has anyone know of anyone who has had this problem or who i can talk to it about it ?? i can read the E and the FP on the second line only im going to an eye doctor soon its hard to do on enemployment so they never have been able to correct this since i was a child so... u think i could memorize the chart and to what line do you have to see to pass with 20 /40

Not to be mean, but if you can't get your eyesight to 20/40, I don't think you need to be having a CDL. And no, I've never heard of waivers for those who can't meet the minimums. The minimums are there for a reason. -
If you can't get to the minimums on any of the dot test. Then I'm sorry to say you maybe out of luck. The minimums are pretty minimum to begin with. I have almost full hearing loss in my right ear and i still passed with out having to get a hearing aid. It's weird that you can get corrective lenses though, I have a major stigmatism, and double vision, and my glasses correct all that. But if you cant get it to 20/40 then you are pretty much sunk.

you better make darn sure you can pass a DOT physical exam before you go wasting your hard earned money on CDL school.
