Whats the general conscensus on the F650/750 with hydraulic brakes and the cummins package? Still something to run from? It seems to fit the size requirements without major modifications. And i would want to purchase something new to take advantage of depreciation...

I'd say the cost may even be less than a 550, since it's a "look at me" truck with the rich guys with big boats... and you have a very capable truck.

I think that new 6.7 is gonna be alright, just needs a little time to prove itself. The 6.0 and 6.4 need to hang on the wall though as reminders of "lets not try that again."

I would not gamble on it.

Their track record since the 7.3 has been laughable. But, they are due a good one sometime.

My primary job and specialty is lemon law cases... I second and third the issues with any Powerstroke other than the 7.3, especially the 6.0.

7.3 will remain king...for who knows how long. I still want one. But I have relatives with the new 6.7 and so far, so good. Time will tell. Miles will tell, we have a 7.3 at work that had a banks chip for over 200k miles (mostly abused)...now at 285k miles running stock, still going strong.

But when someone uses these trucks for 100,000 plus miles in a year, will they hold up like the 7.3.

I have my doubts about the 6.7 dodge from what I have been seeing in the industry. Ford has fell out of grace with anyone using it to earn a living.

I would advise against the F550 for hauling anything. A sign company I worked for used 2 of them for about 7 months. They had an articulating sign bucket on it with outriggers welder tool boxes ECT... Gave us more problems than any other truck there. For one the turbo piping was always blowing off of it and my buddy told me one time the actual turbo unit blew off the thing. We ended up switching the truck to mitsubishi Fuso's which worked great. We also used chevy 5500's for a tower a flat bed and some righ job platform truck.. they also worked great.

I actually had to join to reply. Trucks are only as good and dependable as their operators. For all the ford haters and those who don't seem to understand a weight rating (whether truck will last at rating), a weight rating is the MAXIMUM you can tow (safely), and the MINIMUM performance mark it has to reach to get that rating.

I own a 2008 F-550, with Pick-up mod, and first ford truck I have ever owned (30 yr. Chevy-man). It is "not a show boat" like the GM 4500 and 5500's, plus will fit in a commercial parking garage and looks like a F-350 but 9" longer and 6" wider takes two spots. I have a link air ride suspension on the rear and 50 gallon extra for 90 gl total and traxx control system.

The new 550 appears to have upgrades and better mileage. Plus, you can A/C your butt. Maintain and inspect your truck like "you should" daily. Drive like a man pulling 26,000 and you should be fine. It will never accelerate like a truck built to pull 80,000 pounds, and if you don't try to make it you will be fine. I am sure an upgrade like mine to get to 600hp and 995 ft/lbs of torque will be out soon if not already for the new motor. Don't run that high ! I run 75-135hp above stock with a tighter shift pattern.

The BIGGEST factor for me, I no longer need a second vehicle to get around when I am home. My wife will/can drive it. not sure that is a positive. Only "truck people" ever even notice it is a 550.

Oh post note. the 550's are de-tuned from the factory 45 or so HP. That HP needs to be put back in Plus a little. I agree with a majority of the positive bigger truck stuff. Make sure of the CDL requirements of weights. You may require a CDL "A" anyway due to weight.
