I'm gonna guess that being your own boss is nice and has to be worth something? While not making what you want you haven't gone under like so many guys do so I would say you are doing a good job.
Fact: 2019 will have been a very bad year already. Could I be better off as a company driver or not?

Pulling for anything less than $2 per mile is pretty much making a company salary.
I just don't get it.
Not worth the headaches or the risk.

Personally I would not be a driver if I had to drive for a big company, maybe not even a small one. I have always been an oo and don't think I could do what you companies guys do, I would be logging, wrenching or sitting on a piece of equipment first.
I have run company trucks for a few months at a time, usually dirt trucks or haul road trucks running north, but running otr or even local, I would have a hard time for any length of time.Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Keep your head up bro. I’m going to send you a PM with an idea.

A guy tends to buy property and build a shop, or buy one outright, tools and equipment. Many oo's wind up with other equipment or other means of making money that the truck generates the money to get started, especially after the truck and trailers are paid off.
It is kind of like farming, a lot of years, a guy just doesn't make a lot of bank, but do it for 20 years and you should have something to show for your work, instead of just a few bucks in the bank. -
The question to ask is, if there is anything wrong I do...I don't think so. I do whatever everybody else is doing, and I know that millions like myself are having the same results. At this point all you can do is just keeping at it and hope for better times. Going beyond one truck operation may not be something of my agenda. Another question to ask, should I demand more? Perhaps, that's it...we, simple freight haulers, don't deserve any better, or so the market forces say. Were those coal cart haulers in Chicago or New York paid any decent rates in 1899?
Also, I think that "going back to be a company driver" is rather metaphorical. The Hemingway's man and the see knows there is fish to catch and he will, even though he won't sell it. I am not giving up my boat and nets at this point of my life. Such a long wait to have it all and yes it is not just money.Tug Toy, sealevel, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
Mr Tall I assume your running a dry van...?
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
