Fact: 2019 will have been a very bad year already. Could I be better off as a company driver or not?

I've noticed substantial higher rates for reefers lately offered by Convoy, UBER, XPO. Maybe that's a sign of relief.

Yes. With a dry van you need to run and run to make that gross. Lot's of deadhead too. I think we need to distinguish those on spot market vs leased on on dedicated accounts.

Your still pumping out all that cash to everyone else before you get paid.
Did I mention tires brakes and maintenance?
I see everyone post their paychecks..lets see some tax info..how much actual cash goes into your wallet?

Western flyer and Tanksmuch Thank this.

The only way to profit is be self insured and have a crew of mechanics.
$12,000 a month just in insurance?
I hear some crazy rates for trucks.
    Insurance is crazy.
    $150 an hour for mechanics?
I'd be worrying to death driving my own truck.

I feel your pain man . I'm working harder and harder with less hometime and lower profit margins. I have found some good lanes , once my truck is paid off that my be it for my O/O days unless I find something close to home . Like others said the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

I assume you meant $200,000 gross , then you would subtract all your expenses and then pay taxes

SL3406, Oxbow, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this.

These days the math is closer to $170k gross, $50k fuel, $10k Truck ins.14k health ins.w/deductibles met.16k maintenance,4K plates, permits, fuel taxes..4K miscellaneous expenses.Running 100k miles a year. Leaves $72k. Minus any Truck/Trailer pymts. Pay taxes on what’s left after your depreciation, if any, and standard deduction. Any money saved for an emergency fund, comes from your net pay.The good news is, your so broke your in the 15% tax bracket. Net incomes 20k and 50k depending on write offs. Good luck qualifying for a mortgage, the only thing that’s added back into Annual Salary is depreciation.
