Not always true some hills are steeper on one side than the other. The grapevine comes to mind. Northbound isn’t as bad as south bound.

Apparently your eyes are as bad as your shifting. The sign he is referring to is at the top of the hill. It’s a brake check. Let’s you get into proper gear. Also gives info on the grade, speed limit etc. it wasn’t in the middle of the hill so you didn’t miss it because you were avoiding the collision, you never saw it before you descended the hill.

Some of those small town police don't report tickets if they are paid on time.
I got one in Wyoming for speeding and the policeman said, "If you pull into the next truck stop, then botail to the courthouse and pay the ticket, it won't show on your driving record."
I did that and it never showed.

Tell your new company you were mt and went around the other truck because going down that hill at 10 mph mt is insane.

Are you saying you won’t downshift going down a mountain even if you realize you’re in the wrong gear?
What’s your plan? Ride the brakes? Take the ditch? Crash into cars?
What if you’re going down a hill and come around a curve and see stopped traffic? Can you jake and brake and downshift and bring a truck to a stop?

In the old iron days that rule of same gear up and over is subject to certain hills. But that rule probably dates back 100 years. Where you really not going to be that fast with chaindrive.

Cabbage comes to mind. Anyone can get up it. getting down now that's the thing. But that's a wee hill compared to others.

That's no big deal. Rule of thumb: whichever gear you went up the grade in, stay in the same or go a gear lower going down. There is a reason for those speed limit signs kn those steep hills. Dont be like the Colorado driver

If I was hiring this answer would be a deal breaker.
The ops original statement means he messed up sure, but hopefully learned from it.
Your answer means he doesn't care about silly things like laws. That attitude will get the company in trouble.
