I just got a ticket on I-15 in Idaho for missing the POE there going into MT.

It was 5am, so dark.. a bit rainy. I saw the sign for Weigh Station - Next Exit, but when I saw the exit, I saw no sign of any WS.. no pull off area, no trucks lights.. nothing. I even checked the southbound side to see if they were hiding it over there. I didn't see anything there either.. So I kept going.... (oops) Passed under an overpass. And THEN I could see a bunch of truck lights on the southbound side. So I was thinking.. "hmm, what to do?? Maybe they won't notice?" (double oops) I was starting to think I should just pull over, when I saw the flashing cop lights in my mirrors. So I pull over, and they give me a misdemeanor ticket.

They were nice enough... pointed out I was 15min short on my 10hr reset.. and said "you might want to fix it, just saying". I think he new I was a newbie and I just made a newbie mistake. Didn't really even want to give me the ticket!

Anyway, so what's the fallout now? Is writing the judge even worthwhile, explaining my sorry newbie mistake and pleading for mercy? How much are these fines? I saw somewhere online $194, is that right? Does this go on my MVD record? Cuz my company said if I get 1 more point on my MVD, they'll have to get rid of me. That would REALLY suck. (I only have 2 minor speeding tickets on there in the past 5 years.. and they're both almost 3 years or older now.)

    Thanks for any help..

that may (or may not) be a moving traffic violation....i don't see how it could be though....and i cannot find any CSA points regarding this either...

you ran the scale house, they caught you...pay the fine, the judge don't care YOUR reasons why you did it, they nailed you... you're lucky, in CT i do believe it once was $420......i don't know what it's up to now a days...

I would agree with Rerun but I think that's illegal.

Look, you didn't miss the port of entry. You made a decision not to take the exit and blow by it. Pay the ticket. What are you going to say to a judge? "Well your honor I'm new at this so I thought since it was dark, 5 am and I didn't see any cops around that I could get away with running by it."

I blew by a weigh station, I really didn't see the sign. When the trooper stopped me I said, "it's my fault I didn't see it because I was arguing with my husband. I'm at fault officer." I knew the citation, the fine all of it was earned by my inattention. I lucked out the trooper was so surprised by my attitude that he didn't cite me. I was so thankful for it but I sure did deserve it.

I blew by the POI on I-25 coming into Colorado from NM once. Well, didn't blow by it but missed the exit. I knew it immediately so I pulled over and ran back to the scale house. He let me go saying "don't do that again". Yes sir, I'll pay more attention next time. The fact that you kept going was the kicker, imo.

Mistakes happen, it's how the mistakes are handled that matters.

thing is, i cannot find any additional information regarding by-passing a scale house....so as a moving traffic violation, i do not think so...but...maybe in some states it is...??? and yes, it is illegal, but only a fine given by the cop, not points at least not by CSA, points on a MVR...perhaps..?? he has to find that out himself

yes, this is frequently done when a driver goes by the scale house, he/she pulls over right away, take a walk and humble thyself to the God's of the DOT....

I did the same thing in Wallula, WA at that goofy scale that's in sort of a "triangle" surrounded by three different roads - saw it plain as day - they were running trucks one way, but somehow missed the left entrance - turned left went in back around the coop for another shot, and I see the cop jumping in his WSP van - but when he saw what had happened (and that I was getting turned around...) he went back inside. I found the entrance, rolled across and he green-lighted me...

Only one other time did I blew a coop - wasn't paying attention - they didn't come after me (no place to turn around anyway for many miles...) but I swore I'd never do that again...

then since its a state fine/points, and if it was accessed points as per CSA, it would be 5 points...

so suffice it to say, maybe some states it WILL whack a driver on blowing by a scale house, but at what point value..??

392.2C Failure to obey traffic control device
    Dangerous
Driving 5 points driver responsible Y (yes)

he will need to check his MVR in about 1 month......and like he said, one more ticket, he's history.....
