I have an offer for a local dedicated route. Pay seems pretty good and their benefits are much better than I have seen so far. I understand there was a time when they treated drivers pretty badly, any idea how things are now?

My husband has been looking at them.
We went to his career day yesterday and have to say we were not impressed at all. The guy was not very up front about their home time but he was honest enough to say that if you want to make the $$$ don't go with Falcon. -
I understand their OTR program is very diff from their local program. Sounds like you guys were looking at the OTR is that correct? The job I was offered is to be home every night and pretty decent money. Obviously not as good money as OTR would make but very good for a local job. Just curious how they treat their drivers.

I have Falcon on the side of my truck right now, but I work exclusively through an Agent hauling pretty decent freight. My only complaint right now is making to much money. Im going to be forced to buy a new truck because I need the tax write off or my current truck needs to start breaking.

Is Falcon localed some where in NW ohio? I think they take newbies so good luck
-
Ok this is interesting.
What got us interested in falcon was that a few weeks back a person who works for them said "Oh yeah I was home every night. But I have a family with kids and the pay wasn't enough so I went otr."
Still we were interested in hearing about the local runs.
So comes career day and the guy says that you can start getting local runs after about a year. He did also say too, that if you're looking to make the $$$ Falcon is not the company to go with.
I told my husband if you're going to have to do regional or otr, anything that takes you away from home, go with the company that will pay the best and ensure your safety. Falcon is telling us they can start giving you local runs in about a year, but you can get your time in with a company that may pay better and then start looking for something local anyway. -
Cummins thanks. That does help answer some of my questions. Even tho you and I would be in diff divisions the pay rate or cionsistency is always a concern. Of course we know what the recruiters say but how often does that turn out to be a lie?!
Honor roll yes they are in Austinown Ohio. Near Youngstown. I think they do take new drivers for the OTR division I'm not real sure on that part.
Kavorkas, they may be right in the Michigan area. I'm not sure if they have terminals there or not. I know this offer was drop and hok for local GM plants. Apparently their freight just increased so they needed to fill 25 more local seats. I got the imperssion that what you were told is usually true but this was kind of a special need kind of deal. So I really dont know what the OTR jobs pay for them but the local pays pretty good. -

I was going to post again the other day but was just about to walk out the door.
I think I spoke when I shoulda shut my trap and read your profile. From what I gather you've been trucking for a while. My husband will just be graduating, which, it is very possible would make a big difference in offers. Nevertheless, thank you for the response. -
Naw experience dont really matter here. Neither of us have worked for them so we both have to guess how much of recruiters spill is truth and how much is not. I think the biggest diff is them telling you about their OTR jobs while I'm looking at a local gig. But even at that I'm still guessing, or hoping that what you were told doesnt turn out to be reality.
