Who charges a driver for late delivery? That must be for O/O's... and in that case,,shouldn't you be protected under the HOS rules? I mean if you sign a contract and say you will be there at such and such date and time,,than I guess you are taking that on yourself... I would also think you would be protected under "acts of God"..? NO? Okay, just checking...LOL

I have worked for several companies that charged company drivers for being late.

Acts of God were not excuses. Nor were Road Closed.

Wow,,,if they tried that crap with me,,,we would be in court...than again,,I don't take a load I cant deliver ontime and if I cant deliver ontime, than I keep them informed. I don't play around out here like a lot of drivers do,,so, I guess I just don't have to worry about it...LOL I really didn't know companys charge drivers for being late but, hey if it keeps them out of the casino's and away from the buffet's...

If it's the drivers fault, virtually every company charges the driver for a late load.

A previous company I worked for tried to charge me for a late load because I went back to the shipper 4 different times to rearrange the freight (I was overweight on my steer axle by 3,000 LBS). Then I parked a hour shy of the reciever because I ran out of hours. They had the nerve to tell me to keep on rolling. I reported that dispatcher to safety and never heard from that dispatcher again.

I never ate at the buffet under a load. I never went inside a casino. In fact most of the time I spent the nights at the shipper/receiver.

I have had dispatch set hours that the truck has to average 64 mph and that is the top speed on the truck.

I never got charged with a late load fee, but I knew a driver that did.

I no longer work for a company as a driver.

    SheepDog Thanks this.

With me it depends on how much time I have on a load. Most of the loads I get anymore have so much time that I could drive in reverse and still make the appoitment.

That last company as a company driver, most loads were that way.

But every once in a while they dispatched at 100 mph. Or in Illinois, 55 mph at the time on the interstate and two lanes, they wanted you to run at top speed of 64.

I even stopped in the middle of the day, load not due till the next day and took a shower. They called and wanted to know why the truck was stopped.

I wouldn't have a problem with a company charging a late charge to a driver that just plain screwed around and didn't get there on time...

A situation like you described Roadmedic,,,not happening to me. I was late to my delivery appt this morning..suppose to be there at 08:00 this morning... Picked up load the night of the 16th and had enough time to drive for an hour than park.. I picked up in Zanesville, OH They called me while I was sleeping to give the load to a team...that didn't happen, when the team got there to pickup the load, they couldn't take it,,it was HM and only one of them had the endorsment...LOL Than, the company was going to give it to another solo driver, L/O...I was like,,that don't make sense.. He wanted it too, he was trying to go home.. Anyway, I got it and drove it to its delivery, even though they held me up for 45mins trying to figure out what to do to get it delivered on time... I told them the afternoon of the 16th when they assigned me the load that there was no way I would make it by that time...they gave it to me anyway... I was 3hrs late... I ran my wheels off and kept left door shut... I think they were happy and receiver didn't say a thing...
