Well I'm up for the waste/fertilizer hauling gig. The full-time driver quit, and I'm the only one that knows it all. Heres a question for the chip haulers, when on the tipper are you in the truck? Dont really see a point in a tipper if most of the trailers are walking floors. Been trying to get into chips but want to see how this goes, if it goes good, Ill stick with it for a while.

You cant stay in the truck any more. 15 years ago maybe, not now. The dumper is better because you dont need the expense and weight of the mechanics of the live floor. Less crap to maintain and more payload.

I reckon I will throw my 2 cents in, had a sweet end dump gig hauling scrap steel in state (arkansas) but market fell off and the other two guys trucking is all they know got younguns at home plus my wagon was rented so I backed out to give a little more income for them. I have been an equipment mechanic for years always something broke seems like customer checkbook lately. Anyway i was thinking about pullin a hopper with harvest coming up the only wagon I own is an old merrit pott kinda promised to stay around home but cant part with it either so any thoughts advise or laughs are apprieciated. there are a few log trucks around I wouldn't be against a bunk trailer not sure about a pole.

Wore-out from what Ive seen logging is not a bad gig.
Ive done some research in what pays best, Ive concluded anything in oilfield is top dollar, followed by car hauling, flat bed or heavy hauling, then logging. All the OTR jobs dont look that great.
I know it is better to haul logs on percentage rather than hourly pay if you can find a company that pays like that.
Lord willing I will be starting out soon with a logging outfit if they ever call me. If they do I'll keep you posted.wore out Thanks this. -
I'm hauling a load of grain handling equipment to SD tomorrow. I just got a text from one of our farmers that said he has corn to haul this week for him. We have to drive across a hay field to get to the bin and they baled it today.

Im looking into buying a new rig some day. If I land a job Im looking at it might take me 5-6 years to get up enough cash. Dont do loans anymore, learned my lesson there and Im now an advocate against bank slavery. As we all know whether by ear or experience the trucking business is a long term commitment if one is going to generate any kind of return worth the while dedication is required to see things through until the end.
I'll keep my eyes open on for a hopper, but as of now I couldnt tell you where to find one.
MJ might have a better chance of finding you one, but I dont know. -

First hopper I ever pulled was a 1500 bushel Merrit, it was bought to occasionally haul oats, you could get it up to 80k gross with normal weight oats. I think it had 84 inch sides.
See a few hoppers sitting with for sale signs on them, but I don't see a lot of high sides.
