I'm about a year in...
Been on a dedicated account running mostly TX, OK, LA.
It seems lately more and more, especially up and down 45 and 35.
I will see a truck way off in the distance, catch up, get just about even on the attempt to pass....
When magically the other truck suddenly has the ability to do the 65mph I can do???
Occasionally they can suddenly go 70... But it seems for no longer than 8 miles or so. As we repeat this scenario over and over for the 300 miles.
Why would you not drive as close to the speed limit as your truck allows??
Also what is the deal with empty flatbeds that can do 75... Except on the smallest hills, and they slow to 58??
Fast trucks driving slow?

The guy is driving slow trying to get good fuel mileage and he sees what truck you are in and knows you are going to slow him down on the hill up ahead so he speeds up to prevent you from slowing him down on the hill ahead
tow614, insertnamehere, ExOTR and 4 others Thank this. -
They are riding along about half way asleep, when you pass them they wake up, and realize how slow they were going.

So annoying when this happens. It happens on flat ground to. Pass someone else at .00001 MPh faster then they pass and slow down again.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -

It's not just fuel, although that is a huge factor, every 5 MPH faster you go above 60, you increase the wear on your tires, it's that friction thing. and you increase the wear on all the rest of your running gear.
I ran my own truck un-governed and drove at 62 for the most part. But when encountering the occasional jag off, that would try and speed up, and even keep going to where he was maxed at 70 or so, I'd roll right by, and leave them way in the dust.
Anything over 72 on a consistent basis, and your literally leaving rubber on the highway. I used Dunlap drives & Pilot steers. You want to keep in mind what your max speed rating is before you let that big dude drift up to 80 coming down a hill someplace, less they pick you off the highway with a stick & a spoon.Last edited: May 13, 2016

I was driving 65 then someone tried to pass me going 65.5.
I let him get to my tandems (that took like 5 minutes) then I accelerated to 70.
Why do you care the reason I was driving 65.Bo Hunt, Xzay, Iron-Man and 1 other person Thank this.
