they make more profit sending the experienced drivers elsewhere even with the liability with new drivers.
all the american trucking assn companies are using the same business model. "lease TRAIN,drive!
they will continue to lobby in washington for more regulations and about the shortage of new drivers until they get access to mexican trucks and drivers and can run them in all 48 states and make even more profit.
i got a real job and no sleeper and exercise every day.

Fat is a choice (98% of the time) I may not be in my old Army shape, but I can still pass a PT test.

The company I drive for just terminated 2 drivers. One was extremely overweight and apparently kept delivering late because he had to stop and use the bathroom 12 times a day and every time he stopped he sat there for one hour at a time. This guy refused to take care of himself and it was putting the company at risk and pissing off customers. The other guy refused to shower apparently and after he was warned to keep his truck clean and his body washed on several occasions, the owner finally told him enough was enough. He had a 2013 KW T-660 and the mechanics had to air it out just to be able to service it because they almost puked when they opened the door from the odor. If I owned the company I would do the same thing. If a driver can't stay healthy or even have the self respect to shower it reflects bad on everyone. Getting mad at a company for protecting their investment, customer base and safety record is unfair. I say eat right, exercise, get enough sleep and take a shower! And maybe certain drivers won't be humiliated and lose their livelihood. No wonder there is such a bad stigma out there when it comes to drivers!
By the way, I am 6'2" and 220lbs. I am in perfect health, eat right, exercise by walking when I am parked for my breaks, and shower a minimum of 5 times a week. (free with fuel) I take care of myself because what I do for a living requires a huge amount of endurance. My company gives me a new truck, miles, and respect. In return I give it my best by taking care of business, starting with MYSELF! The owner has been in business 42 years and with only 35 trucks he cannot afford to have drivers who simply do not care about themselves much less and 80,000 lb rig. After what I read on these threads, I can say I am glad I work for someone who cares enough to tell it like it is and does what he has to do to protect our jobs.ShortBusKid and mje Thank this. -

BTW... there isn't any sort of a "BMI risk assessment" at Prime. BMI is one of a number of factors that a medical doctor uses during the orientation physical in deciding whether to ask the applicant to take a sleep test. If the applicant refuses, he or she is on a bus. -
