They don't need to ask themselves. The company will tell them. :biggrin_25523:

I think if we all sat down and looked back over each post on this thread we'd find that the vast majority of those of us who are overweight have stated that we know why we are, and that we struggle with exercise, diets and life style changes. We'd also find that when comments about society influences and medical reasons were made they were not excuses but in addition to the honest statements about the reasons we're overweight.

We all would also find that the majority of those of us that are overweight did not support the OP's stance and claims of discrimination.

    We're overweight......not stupid. :biggrin_25525:

But then again........why would anyone want to actually be logical about a thread?

P.S. I'm not attacking you by any means Packerfan, I'd just like you and a few others to go back and actually read the posts.

Do I think your attacking me? No..I doubt it. In fact, I did read the "post" I quoted, hence the reply. I just had to put in my 2 cents(whatever thats worth) about people, and yes myself included at times, about complaining about being treated unfairly by companies about weight, ect. All I'm saying is this...people by the very root of our nature, tend to want to blame others for our own shortcomings, medical problems, inability to perform, whatever it is. I make no bones about me being perfect, because I am most definately NOT. I hear the whining and complaing everyday on the road and on the sattelite radio, truckstops like the rest of you out there in our business of trucking. I just have to take exception when I hear someone say it cant be done out here to eat and live right. I myself when I started driving was a meager 135 lbs. Then proceeded to(like others) eat myself to 275 lbs on my short 5'5" frame because I just didnt know any better, and I was young at the time and thought I was indestructible.(sound familiar fellow drivers?) As I got older, I had to take responsibility for my weight or possible lose my job because I would not be able to perform it satisfactory enough to keep it. I "still" have about 70 lbs to go as I am still not happy with being at 210. It will take alot more work on my part, but it will be done. So enough of my rant texas nana...I hope that maybe people can change for the better in this industry and if by some small sliver of chance my story helps, so much the better. Im not here to rag on anyone, just tell it like I see it is all.

I'm 6'0" and 335 pounds - give or take a few. I used to deliver locally for Whirlpool - the appliance corporation - and five days a week I was unloading a 53' trailer full of appliances with a two-wheel handtruck down an aluminum ramp and into the stores. I was in GREAT shape, I ate about 4500-5000 calories a day, but burned it off through the work I did.

Then I made two major mistakes - First, I changed jobs from driving locally to driving OTR, so I stopped getting the exercise I was used to. Secondly, I quit smoking. Over three years, I gained about 100 pounds - I still had a good appetite, but wasn't getting the physical workout like I used to.

Now I'm trying to lose the excess weight. I've been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and the only way I can ever stop using that infernal machine is by losing weight (according to the ENT Dr.) I'm on a modified South Beach diet (absolutely no carbs and refined sugars, except for Sunday, when I'll eat a baked potato and perhaps a roll with dinner, and allow myself a single soda) and it's working, very slowly, but I can feel it's working - I've lost about 12 pounds in two months, and I can feel my energy levels starting to increase.

My goal is to get to 250 pounds, which is still "obese" with a BMI of 33.9. If I got down to 220 pounds, my BMI would be 29.8 - "overweight", and if I dropped to 183 pounds, my BMI would be at the top end of the "normal" range with a BMI of 24.8 But first, I'll try for 250 pounds. I figure that if I can lose 85 pounds and bring my BMI down from 45.4 to 33.9, that's good!

    But on the other hand...

If I lose my job because I'm overweight and medically disqualified to drive according to the DOT Regulations, I'll qualify for Social Security Disability payments - when if combined with my retirement and 401(K), should allow me to sit on my fat ### at home all day, eat Taco Bell, drink Coca-Cola, and surf the web for porn!

Hmmm... drive a truck, or look at naked women all day? Maybe I should think about this dieting thing some more! :D

Between looking and maybe even playing with the naked women part, I'd still go with the losing part! LOL!
Trust me on this part: Disability SUCKS!
I'm medically disabled untill the ducks start to march to the same drummer in my head from surgery! This piddling amount I make is at the TOP of the SSD chart and what I now bring in for a month is less that what I made in a freaking week driving on my dedicated NYC route!
