What if you have never had HBP. Had blood work done and everything came back good. Had a nuclear stress test and came back good no problems. Have no symptoms of sleep apnea but I have a 20 inch neck. So because of that I may not get hired?

Prime will hire anyone over the BMI limit, they have to submit to a sleep study test, before being given a DOT physical card by the Dr.
Plenty of people have taken the test and passed. Plenty of people have taken the test and failed and were still hired.
Failed but hired? Yes, they failed and were prescribed to use a sleep apnea machine and were given a 3 month DOT Physical card. After 3 months of use, and 3 months worth of submitted data, a one year card DOT.
My experiance has been great, I sleep less and feel much more rested... It didnt take long for me to get used to sleeping with it... and I even sleep on my stomach. I cant really sleep without it now without waking up and feeling like crap... sore throat, headaches, fatigued.
You are provided with a sleep counselor to help you, answer questions... give you tips. You check in with them once a week or so for the first couple months... After that they call and remind you to submit your data from the memory card in the machine... which is easier than scanning in paperwork. Plug the card in, punch in birthdate, when prompted remove card. There are quite a few scan locations throughout the country at TA and Petros. Each card hold more than 30 days worth of data.
Yes, it comes out to be just under $2000 total if you have to get the machine. However, that includes the test, follow up, support, and Prime deducts $55 on an intrest free payment system for 30 some weeks. It is a top of the line machine... hardly makes noise.
Ive had my DOT card for 3 months, and then got my year... which is up next week. I will have no problem proving my use, as I use it every night...
Again, there are plenty of people who were forced to take the test and passed... they were not required to get a machine, and the Dr. gave them their DOT physical card. I didnt pass, and Im pretty happy now that didnt because I feel great.AfterShock Thanks this. -
Criteria is comprised of a questionare, neck size, Height/Weight (BMI), throat size...
Anyone can easily fool the questionare with its dumb questions...
Your height and weight determine your BMI (cant fool this one)
Neck size, again cant fool this one.
Throat size is kinda subjective, the Dr. has 4-6 different throat charts to compare with yours... he looks at the throat, air passage, uvuela, tonsils and tounge... selects the most similar from the chart.
Over the BMI limit is an automatic prescribed sleep test... as far as the other criteria I am not sure how those are weighted to the Dr. determination of a test.
You can be under the BMI limit and prescribed the test, however I havent met anyone yet that has had to test. This doesnt mean there arent some Prime drivers out there that have. -
Let's Not Sugar Coat it. The Big Boys are gonna get flagged and eliminated if they choose not to Shape up to The Company's Standards.
Mike and U2 and Pony want to tag the POPMAN in a wrestling match, ok I bring my Hillbilly Cousin BUBBA, and his Ugly Trailer Park Friend, BRUISER! -
This thread was started 09/2010...
you posted that quit SRT around 11/2010, claiming you were getting out of the business. (BTW - one of your joys of quiting was dealing with no more DOT PHYISICAL)
Shortly after you proclaim your return to trucking and decide on Prime
You come to Prime and leave crying after less than 2 days... then come here and complain on this thread about the company and its policies... Its all right here in this thread. The info was here on TR before you left.
Dont blame us because you didnt do your due diligence. They asked you to take a test and you threw a tantrum, and marched home to cry here. -
I wonder why prime is so great? Is it the nice new trucks? or is it the great pay? maybe its that the trucks can do 75? Or maybe its there managment team.

Some people will be making huge sacrifices and taking big risks (like quitting their current career) to attend the school or orientation. No one should unexpectedly go in for some physical and then find they are cut because their neck is "too big" and they don't have the money for the sleep study. It's just a waste for everyone involved.
I'll give Prime credit for publishing that BMI needs to be below 39 for new drivers and for also providing a link to a BMI calculator though. That's better than some others out there. -
