There are plenty driving trucks... we hire and keep alot of them everyday.

    Myself included.

If its too much trouble to do what they want you to do, dont bother coming.

One who works for the company and takes orders from them. But no matter the guidelines should fully be published for the prospective employee or student to consider.

Its called not being subjected to unnecessary medical procedures - you need a DOCTOR to prescribe the sleep test before you get one.

No one is going to hand you anything on a plate in this business.

Do your own research, call a recruiter, ask your own questions. If you dont like what we have to say... tough, plenty of people ask us questions everyday and we do our best to answer them... We are not experts, certainly not recruiters, and are at the mercy of a constantly fluid (changing) hiring policy based on the needs of the company. (you would know that if you had done any research in the Prime threads yourself)

Anyone making "huge sacrafices and taking big risks" is a complete moron if they dont do the footwork themselves to find the information. Ask Popmartian about that... he gave them a height and weight over the phone and then showed up fatter than he thought he was and was un-willing to do that which Prime required of him to be hired.

Move on, I can sense a problem with you... cross us off your list, we can probably do without you at Prime.

Call the #### recruiter... they will answer all questions. No one will put a gun to your head over the phone to come work with us.

Read this thread and you will discover that the recruiter will actually pre-screen the prospective hire by asking their weight and height.

I just tell it like it is. It was not very nice to call me a whiner, That is how children deal with emotions.

The Truth shall set you free! Peace be with you all.

I'm not necessarily speaking only about Prime but in general. From researching I've observed that many do not fully publish the details about what is being checked. I've actually spent over 10 hours researching one company just to try to figure out what the physical actually checked when the recruiter never seemed to tell me anything except "No problem" when asked yet others were saying it would be a problem. Based on common sense I determined that the recruiter probably couldn't be trusted to tell me the full story.

Many of the things are very non-intuitive and would be unexpected such as the whole "neck size" measurement. Barely anyone would know of this unless they were reading these forums, had experience with it, or the company in question actually documented it somewhere and pointed it out.

I spend hours researching companies but I seriously doubt most people do much besides reading a few messages and the information the company gives them. It just makes sense to put the information out there so we're not both wasting our time and money. I really don't think it's asking for much. It's called treating people fairly and being professional.

I am 5'9''. I am 280 lbs. I am fat. I acknowledge that. I am this way because of the fact that a bad nutrition is far cheaper than a good one (due to my genes and due to costs). Face facts. If corporate America was so stressed on having people of exemplary health, then bad food wouldn't cost less than good food, and I've done plenty of research into this over the past year due to my health (I used to be over 330 lbs. before changing my diet in January).

I am not a trucker but I did try to be. I was rejected due to having become diabetic and high blood pressure. Today, both of those are controlled and my diabetes has been almost eliminated by going to a mostly vegan diet. However, my food costs have gone up substantially. Until the USA changes its ways on things such as food costs and substance, then health issues will continue to be on the increase for those who cannot afford to live healthy. It's not the person's fault in this matter.

Corporations only look to earn money. If it kills someone...then that's just the way it is here. I could go into a LOT of detail on this. I spent a LOT of time researching this due to my health issues and wanting to change my life. People with health risks due to obesity are at a disadvantage in this country. This is the truth. This is an absolute fact. Look around you to see it.

(EDIT: I'm 36 yrs old btw.)

On 4th of July 2010 I made the decision to get healthy. I'm 6'1"; on 7/4/10 I weighed 350lbs. I smoked a pack a day and drank mostly soda and ate just about what ever I wanted out of a commercial kitchen where I worked. Not making excuses but I'm built like a lumberjack; big solid barrel chest. I will never fit a BMI chart. Even at 350lbs I could split and stack a cord of wood in an afternoon. Anyway, when I went to sleep that night I said this is BS, I need to change.

Cold turkey went the smoking. Yes it sucks but it can be done. On the morning of 7/5/2010 I threw out my smokes and that was that. 17 year habit gone.

I started walking more. Then started walking on the beach. My beach walks turned to turned to hiking and over time I went from a 2-3 mile walk that about killed my lower back to bounding threw steep mountain trails in the PacNW doing 15-20 mile afternoon hikes 3+ times a week.

I was getting board of the trails and my thing lately has been my bike. 50+ mile mountain bike rides with only one break of about 20 minutes in the middle. Not every day but the weather sucks still for that sort of thing.

Threw out all of this I put a curling bar with an assortment of free weights next to my bed and started using them. I've never really set a routine it just more to get the heart pumping when I get up or go to bed.

As for food I slowly changed the way I eat. Cutting bad foods for me is like quitting a drug. Over time I stopped eating certain types of foods and started with others. Now, IF I drink some soda it is a limited amount. Nothing more then a 20oz and thats only one every few weeks and its gotta be 0 calorie. Otherwise its water, organic fruit juice with NO additives, water, water and water. I have learned one of the worst things you can do is drink your calories.

My junk food snacks have never been brought back in the house. Now its all about the fruit when I want a snack. I'm not saying I never eat anything unhealthy anymore but its in moderation.

Now here I sit just short of a month from a year from time I made the change and I'm 270lbs. I can hike all day. Work outside from sun up to sun down. I'm close friends with a police LT. We spend a lot of time in the woods hunting down old logging and mining camps. He told me that he wishes that most of his officers had the stamina I have now. I start getting cabin fever if I can't get out and do anything physical.

I'm coming back to trucking with a whole new outlook. I love to hike, now I'll have 48 different states to hike in. My bike folds up and will easily fit IN the truck. I also have a good set of weight bands that will be great in the truck; set weighs 10lbs with 250lbs of resistance. My goal will be eventually find a company that will let me run solo/48 with a lot of driver unloads.

Getting in shape is a process. It can be done but it takes time. It took me a long time to reach 350 and it will take a long time to lose it. All it takes is some dedication. Anyone that has quit smoking will tell you that you need to really want to quite for it to work and the same goes for getting in shape. You need to want it. I look at old pics of me and it makes me sick to think thats what I looked like.

I hope my story might help someone out.
