Should they check EVERYbody for pregnancy?
Wouldn't want to discriminate against anyone.
Would that make you feel better?
    Misery loves company.
If it's hereditary, wouldn't one be aware of it? If not, wouldn't/shouldn't they want to know?

I doubt non-smokers batted an eye when the price of tobacco products went up, --- or when many bans went into affect limiting where a smoker can light up. No sympathy.
Now, they're focusing on overweight people.
    Who's next?
    Beer drinkers?

With liberty and equal discrimination for all.

    Indeed it is. :smt045 :smt112

Smoking kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders, and suicides combined, with thousands more dying from spit tobacco use. Of the roughly 400,000 kids who become new regular, daily smokers each year, almost a third will ultimately die from it. In addition, smokers lose an average of 13 to 14 years of life because of their smoking.

Since I come from people who live into their 100's, watch everyone they love die around them and feel time slowly leach their strength and vitality away from them....I'll be happy smoking and living into my 90's.

It doesn't affect you. Mind your own business.

This thread isn't about smoking anyway. It's about obesity, the unfair use of BMI and sleep study mandates from one company. Clouding the issue with side subjects will not change the fact. Obesity kills, too. Sleep apnea kills.

Smoking is an annoyance to you. I actually had one person incredibly claim that my exhaled 3 cubic feet of air mixed with smoke managed to stay in one solid unit past 10 feet of truck, 3 feet of empty space, 53 feet of trailer, 20 more feet of empty space and 4 feet of his hood before being sucked into his air vents and blown into his face....all at 60 mph...and that it caused him to have an asthma attack. So, I should quit smoking. Puh-LEASE.

Obesity is an annoyance to me. But, I'm not going to tell you how fat you are allowed to be. Just squeeze your bulk into a shower more than once a month and be sure to clean out all your skin folds. Funk builds up fast in them and makes me feel physically ill when I have to stand behind you in the lunch line.

You can whine about this all you like, but the bottom line is this:

80% of the folks with your physical characteristics are afflicted with sleep apnea - and there have been some horrific accidents that have killed large numbers of "civvies" by truck drivers falling asleep at the wheel where a known diagnosis of sleep apnea is involved. You may not have it, but that is what it is. While the FMCSA and the medical review board that set the medical standards for commercial drivers haven't blackballed you yet, the insurance carriers of many commerical truck driving concerns have. They determine who drives, and who doesn't.

People with your physique have a propensity to high blood sugar levels, which leads to type 2 diabetes. While you may not have it now, there is a high probability you will. A Prime driver with your physique at your age died in his truck from extremely high blood sugar a couple of years ago, and the owner of this privately held company refuses to allow that to happen again. It's his company, and he can discriminate against your hiring if it materially affects the job you'd be hired to do. The owner of the company says it does.

Loose some weight if you want to drive for Prime, go find another carrier that could care less about your health, or work at McDonalds and eat yourself to death.

I would like to know if prime would disqualify a driver that has an FMCSA insulin waiver. THAT would be a great lawsuit LOL

I had a weekly regimen of food that I designed with some food programs and online research. I kept the variety down to 4 days... All things I enjoyed that were well within proper calorie, vitamin and fat content that my diet allowed. The program adjusted everything as the weight came off so it wasn't a shock to my metabolism...

This was three years ago, but at the time, I was eating 4 meals a day also with several fruit and Veggie snacks at under $9.00 a day... Buying in weekly bulk... And prepping the stuff when I had the time, really Cut down my cooking time when I didn't have the time.

45 min workouts on a bike 2 days a week and 30 min on a row machine 2 other days a week. Turned on my iPod and the time just flies.

I lost about 50 lbs in 2.5 months.

Then I got in the truck. I've been to lazy to get back on the right track. I'm gonna regroup here and focus again shortly.

Does anyone of you not see the liability aspect of hiring people with weight issues?

No different than if the military recruited a service member who was color blind for the Bomb Squad....

If they are going to be uber-strict and exceed the DOT minimum requirements to the point of discrimination, then shouldnt they pay the drivers well enough and give them time to exercise and eat healthy? 14-16 hours in a truck combined with #### pay and no exercise is not a good combination to begin with. Now they want everyone to buy CPAP machines and pay for an over-priced sleep study just to go make the #### wages this business wants to pay? I can go clean toilets at Pilot and make about the same money, minus the usual road expenses and this crap, without all the headaches...
