    I know this spot. The widened area of the road seen in picture is Boundary Peak View Area. It's actually 3-4 miles of north east of CA and NV borderline. Almost no cell phone coverage there. This happened west(or south) of Montgomery Pass and elevation is high there...

    I run that route fairly often. It's a beautiful ride, but you have to pay attention to the road, not the scenery. I stopped last month to get pictures.

    You're rolling the dice every time you run two-lane roads at nighttime. It might be an hour or more before someone else comes along to find you and several hours more before help arrives depending on where you are.

    exactly. I never seen highway patrol car between Benton, CA and US6&US95 junction . And not to many trucks night time.

    I have an affinity for those kind of situations. I'll take that over crowded urban areas any day of the week and thrice on Fridays.
