Without knowing anything else, you could probably sell it for $15-$20,000 in 1-3 months.

Show me a 10 year old truck without $10,000 in recent receipts, and I'll show you a truck that hasn't moved.

Those repairs add no value, unfortunately...

Get the company's offer in writing, but if it were me I'd buy the truck and sell it as quickly as I could and look to get $15-17k -- assuming it is currently road worthy.

Dealers may be asking that much, but they're probably not moving at those prices -- except to people who have no other option but to fall victim to buy here pay here financing.

They are right -- and if they're saying $13-15k the truck is probably pretty ragged.

    They are telling the truth:

    Terrible idea.

Not a horrible idea especially if you don't have a lot of time, but I think for $10k you should have a little equity built in...

If its getting a bit of a complex issue you may have to hire a lawyer or at the very least read the fine print on any contract that he signed if you haven't already done so. Losing a parent is so stressful for anyone so i feel for you mate hope everything works out for the best.

At 10k, there's some money to be made unless it has a Mercedes engine. I'd buy it, shine it up and throw it on eBay motors. The commission is low and I have had great luck there. You'll need to know a lot more about the truck than it is a Freightliner. All trucks are basically custom built. There is no standard spec like on a F150. It can have 4 different brand motors, with almost unlimited specs, 2 brands of transmissions, etc. Good luck.

Yes, it probably has EGR but pre-DPF. If it's a Cat, its an ACCERT.

(Making 5k is hard work)...if, you decide to sell the truck, be prepared to wait it out for 3 years before you make a sale. Truck will sell...it will take time.
