True. And in my case, I'm paid hourly, so 59-60 mph it is for me. Most of our trucks are 2 axle daycabs, Penske leased, so the power is dialed way down. 2014 Cascadias, DD13 set at 325 hp(!), 10 speed, licensed for 65,000. our fleet average is roughly 7 mpg.

Speed limit I am not a fan of speeding. Gives less of a reason to pull me over. I set my cruise to the gps so I know what my speed is for sure then the speed on the dash

Doesn't get much better than thisjason6541, Lepton1 and Dye Guardian Thank this. -
All depends on your environment, what is your comfortable cruising speed.
Cheyenne with dry van 50+ mph cross wind. 50-60mph. If you can hold your steering that long.
Flatbed Arizona dry no wind you can roll 75+
All depending on who pays the fuel bill.ShooterK2 Thanks this. -
2012 Peterbilt 386, 2.64 rear, direct 10, Cummins ISX. Cruises 60 at 1350 rpm, right where it should be. I prefer 60 and finding a used truck geared for that was perfect for me. Cruising 60 is easy; I don't have to fight for space on the highway and rarely have to change lanes. I just cruise along while everyone passes by. The ONLY trucks I pass on the highway are Prime trucks. Average MPG on almost 48k miles I've had the truck is at 8.3. Last month MPG was 8.6 and this month is 8.8 so far.

Anyways, my truck is a 2005 Kenworth T600 with a 435 HP C15 ACERT Caterpillar, 13 speed and 3.25 rears. In Michigan, I set the cruise at 65. RPM's are about 1250-1300. I average 6.5-7 MPG hauling produce running that speed. In states that are 65, I run about 70 and in states that are 70, I run 73. That's where my governor is. I have no idea what my fuel mileage is going 73, I'm assuming terrible. lolCrackerjack71 Thanks this. -
Schneider company cascadia evo. 2015, 12 speed auto. I run 60 because governor. 8.4 mpg.

I generally run the speed limit +5, so to give the appearance of at least trying not to be a complete horse's patoot.
I have to scratch my head at some though, the ones that go slow out in the wide open 55 mph zone and speed through the 45 mph zone. -
65-70 most of the time on the interstate. Did 80 through Wyoming and Utah with a 410 John Deere articulating dump truck at 126k because that was the difference in getting home and having to stop 60 miles from the house because of hours.
MPG? doesn't matter with what we haul. Not going to get it anyhow.
At the moment I am moving 100+ foot steel bridge beams and averaging right around 5 mpg cruising at 68 mph grossing 100k. 2007 W900 with a 550 CAT and 18 speed with 3.91 rears all on tall 24 rubber.wore out, Grijon, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
525 HP 13 speed and ungoverned , I like to run 65 or 68 because I'm rarely in a hurry .
Once in a while I get that driver that has a problem with getting passed and decides he wants to race (kllm drivers are good for this) and I show em what a fast truck is .
