Right now , one of the better engines you can get are the DD family 13 or 15. To get those it has to be a Freightliner or a Western Star. The ISX and the MX have their issues.
Resale is about a mute point. A few years back son of a small fleet , bragged they only bought Petes. Asked about their fleet avg on fuel, he tells me . But harping about their trade value . Told him life time fuel cost compared , he could sell his , we could burn ours and still be 10k each to the good.

Never drove a Pete. But just seems to flashy for me. Not my thing. I am pretty simple. If I bought my own truck I would get a new Freightliner with a Detroit Diesel, preferibly a DD15. I had a pre-emissions DD15 with a mega carrier who castracted the heck out of their engines and that thing pulled way better than the brand new DD13 I was put in at upgrade time.

I was told our company signed a substantial contract with Peterbilt, and 579's are all we'll be using for the foreseeable future.

I like the looks of PB, even the KW's as well, but my biggest gripe with them is they are so freaking small inside the cab. I can almost reach over and roll the passenger side window up while driving. Ergonomically they suck compared to others. I'm 6'3" 230 pounds and I need my space. I feel like I'm riding in a clown car when I'm in one.
But again I think the KW 900 or PB 379/389 are hands down the sharpest looking rigs on the road, even if they do have a 354,987 inch wheelbase and take 40 acres to turn that rig around. But, other than status symbol I do not see the use of having one.

I run a 06 379 cat 18 speed glider and I have driven others. PB will always be my first pick. I'll take the smaller cab size over a Volvo or kw. The Cummins that we had in a couple trucks were garbage and are replaced with cats. I just takes a certain type to run Pete's it's all by choice and company I suppose. I love the fact that I get to run a Pete I have great pride when I pull in and my truck looks a lot better then newer trucks. It's all about taking care of it and that falls off when you drive for these big company's. I love getting out and passing y'all up to makes me smile to have power and no governor all the while pulling 97000.

My favorite would be around a 1977 Kenworth W900 A model with either a 36 inch flattop or 60 inch aerodyne, 300 inch wheel base, 3406b with a 15 speed deep reduction, maroon and white Seminole paint scheme, 7 inch pipes with chino tips, 14 inch drop visor, lots of chrome, but tastefully done. Right now I'm in a daycab Volvo, which is almost the same thing

I really dislike the floor mounted clutch pedal on the Petes. I still think the 378 with the set back steer axle is the nicest Pete model though. Long hoods just look goofy IMO.

Driving a Pete always gave me a hard on! Love em. Nothing like a flat top Pete!
