My favorite type of trucking was pulling a dump trailer. I have done it on a local gig years ago but it didn't pay very well. I've done it otr before an i thought it paid well. Definitely paid better than the reefer/dry van work we're doing now. The best money , home time , and benefits I've had was pulling containers( intermodal) for a company where we live. Did that for 8 yrs but got sick of seeing chicago everyday. My wife and i team now so it's hard to find a gig doing what i like. We would like to pull a dump trailer or a flatbed of some sort. I don't have any recent flatbed experience so it's hard to get into and hard to find someone that would have team freight for such a gig. The only dump team work I've found would require us to own our own truck. As far as reefer trucking goes I've personally had my fill of grocery warehouses an produce sheds.

I'll definitely agree with the dump trailer being the best. Customers were (mostly) all friendly and easy to get along with. Very little wait times anywhere, unless you were doing grain or fertilizer during peak season. Rates were decent and remained steady. I know I didn't get physically beat up or work nearly as hard as with flatbed/covered wagon work.

Best of all... go ahead, refuse to take the load. Leave me sitting for no reason. I dont need anyone to unload me, at the location of my choice. Just pop the gate and pull the lever ;)

No not really. 21.50 per hour, but I do get OT and profit sharing.

But I don't need or want to be rich, Would rather just do what makes me happy. As long as the bills are paid, I'm good.

Yea you're right about that. I hauled hazmat tho so the receivers were a little picky about where product got dumped. But yea wait times were mostly not much at all.

I did mostly coal, pig iron, some minerals for steel mills, salt, and assorted stone. Kinda childs play compared to hazmat. Lol.
