Favourite radio shop

That guy in CB that used to set up at the Sapp Bros. screwed up a brand new 29LX. The typical clip 'n snip "tune". Had antenna warnings out the wazoo and a hum in the background after talking for a couple minutes thereafter, had to bring it to DTB (long before the allegations against him came out) to get it to work right thereafter, but work right it did once he was done.

1. He was only there certain days of the week, and the other days he was set up closer to his home in Red Bluff (or something like that)
2. He did say back then (not long after I started in 2012) that he was planning to retire in around 5 years.

Clay's did my Stryker brand new and it's fantastic.

Lately for the stuff I can't have Mark do I've been using Rick @ the TA at exit 6 in Gary. Finally got another 29LX as my old one is beat to ####, he tuned it, no "bigger final" crap, I do 15 miles with it easy when the guy on the other end is set up well.

I was using Steve @ Q5 but A.) I never get by there anymore, and B.) I found a mod kit in a radio I had done by him that was previously bone stock which took the wind right out of my sails for him.

J Rich; I have used the shop on exit 12 I-285. I was pleased. I get a lot of compliments on my radio.

 

The value of the compliment is determined by the person that gave it to you.
People with good sounding radios compliment other people with good sounding radios and people with over modulated distorted sounding radios compliment other people with over modulated distorted sounding radios.

 

Okay, then allow me to be more precise. My radio is not an IMD box that splatters 10 channels up and down. In fact it does not travel whatsoever out of the bandwidth of the HF frequency I may be operating on at any given time. Hopefully this will clarify any misconceptions that there may or may not be as to the quality of transmissions originating from _33. But yes I agree, people who like the sound of their over modulated, garbled, unintelligible splatter boxes compliment other people who have over modulated, garbled, unintelligible splatter boxes.

 

Not to hijack this thread, but is it ok to open up a stock radio (Galaxy 959b) and turn up the modulation potentiometer a bit? Radio meter read an average of 30% modulation before, now reads around 70%.

 

I would not recommend adjusting your own radio unless you have the proper equipment (a properly calibrated bench) . There are a lot of things that go along with tuning a radio. It is not as simple as just turning up the modulation.
