You strike me as a guy who knows a thing or too...so you have to know how rumors work. Its all lies. Nothing is happening with Swift
I do know how this works. But when you hear enough of it you have to start asking questions. And that's all I'm doing, I wouldn't put any trust in what a corperation tells me. Now as doubtfull as a shutdown of swift is you have to consider this. They are beholden to there shareholders, not you or I. They would tow that line no matter what. Now I don't know how long you have been around trucking but I've been around it a good 25 years and we've had three companies close there doors on us. The way they do this is one day you show up and the gates are locked and the lights are off. They don't tell you, they just close and lock you out while they have your money.... So be careful
Shareholder..Jerry bought back 100% of the company and only swift employees can buy Swift stock now..or last I heard
This school in question is actually in Millington, TN .... just north of Memphis .... a couple years ago I lived about a mile from it The school is itself owned and operated by Swift .... it is their personal school .... they use trucks that are no longer over the road worthy (not pretty sites) I worked with a guy in Memphis when I was running a fuel truck .... he used to be an instructor there .... he would always talk about how they basically gave people a license no matter how they were in the school .... that Swift was hurting for people and needed them in trucks They have a state run office on site for issuing licenses .... but everything is basically run by Swift there .... if Swift gave the papers they got a license .... it didnt matter if they hit something in training .... they needed people on the road
Sound's to me like there's more than just fake CDL issuin' goin' on because of the ATF. Why in the hell would the ATF be in on something like that that DOESN'T concern anything about Alcohol, Tobacco or Firearms So the question is what ELSE are they looking for?
I was passing through West Memphis so me and my trainer decided to stop by Roadmaster CDL school and visit the faculty that helped me get my CDL. Well we pulled up and I noticed a lot more trucks from MS Carriers. So I figured "Hey, Roadmaster must have gotten some new trucks." But on the contrary, it was SWIFT sharing the yard with Roadmaster! Swift's CDL school was shut down (At least the one near Memphis....I cannot confirm company-wide), so Roadmaster decided to be good neighbors and allow swift to train on their yard. They have to go though all the steps necessary to get their AR CDL license, then switch over to the home of residence as appropriate. I guess swift had it coming anyway. Whether it was for illegal immigrants, or just plain sloppiness with passing out legal CDLs. One of my trainers at Roadmaster used to be an instructor # Swift years ago and he said it was horrible. There would be 50-100 students sent to his station (say, straight line backing) and he had about 2 hours to show ALL the students how to do it correctly and let them practice. Now this may be a little exaggerated, but he emphasized the complete lack of care that upper mgmt had on training. They just wanted a body in the truck.
I just got home wednesday from training and orientation in millington/memphis. What is actually being investigated is the TN law stating that you have to be a resident for atleast 30 days before applying for a new license in TN. Also there was a law recently passed, (not sure of the details) having something to do with the residency law, that Swift wasn't folowing. The school is still running and only taking TN residents and the third party testing has also been suspended. I was at the dmv at the swift terminal in memphis the day of the raid, pretty unnerving! I'm not surprised that they're being investigated, it seemed kinda fishy when the guy that actually took your license picture and handed your license card to ya is a swift employee. Little conflict of interest, I think.
MM.....I guess since Junior there has only been around for a couple of weeks he probably don't remember a tiny company with 15,550 employees called CF does he.Consolidated hands remember them tho because they showed up to locked gates and wondering where their money was.CF had 100x the class Swift has too.
Yes I figured when I was first told that Swift's Transportation division was shut down, at first I was like WOW. But then I thought about it. 10,000+ trucks just shut down like that? That would shut down a large part of the country! But then I did some research and concluded (erroneously) that their Memphis, TN school was shut down for investigations. Their transportation side was completely unaffected. In light of this new evidence, it would explain why they were at Roadmasters (West Memphis, Arkansas). By moving across the Miss river, they could avoid dealing with the TN law. AR is more non-resident friendly. Roadmasters gets a boost in business as well, so I'm sure they didn't mind being "good neighbors". I'm sure Swift is revamping their training program (CDL issuance dept) in light of the recent spotlight.
I heard that they were training illegal immigrants. That was on the CB. Well anyhow if anyone is interested in fighting illegal immigration or would like to help close the border to Mexican(?) trucking companies, you might want to check out. They are fighting illegal immigration, NAFTA, the NAU, open borders and host of related items. They also post links in their forums for sites that will shoot off faxes to your politicians concerning these issues, all with just the click of a mouse. Be aware fellow truckers, congress in the near future will be looking at a atiquated law, the interstate drayage law of 1937(?) The feds want this law scrapped. This law prevents Canadians now, and Mexicans in the future from coming into this country and staying for extended periods of time. Right now the Canucks ave to deliver their load and then get freight going back to Canada. If this law is repealed, then there would be no need to go home until they were good and ready.
