Forerunner to the ELD. Had a round paper inside, looked sorta like a lie detector machine. Kept track of time. They got to be a pain, most places just quit using ‘em

Question on 8/2 ... I didn’t use it this morning, just running it through my head as practice.

Last night I stopped after driving 10.5 hours... this morning, before my 10 was complete, I had .5 hours available to me on my 11, which makes sense as we can only drive the amount of time we had left from yesterday correct? So I would only be able to go 30 minutes before taking the 2 of the 8/2. If my understanding is correct.

But, I didn’t have any time available on my 14... does the status of ones 14 not matter and I can drive for the amount if time on my 11 line, or am I missing a piece?

    Thanks.

The 8/2 ( or now also 7/3 ) split does not extend your 14, it pauses it. So, in this circumstance, yes, you would've had 30 minutes available to drive this morning if you'd left before your 10 was up. Then you would've had to shut down for another 2 hours to fulfill the 8/2 split and gain more drive time. It's a handy tool to use every once in a great while if you are trying to get home or make an appointment or something like that. But is not something I recommend doing consecutive days, it can get really confusing then. That is the one area where elogs are actually a help. It will tell you exactly how much time you have. Without having to get out the calculator or count fingers and toes LOL
