Caravan is our actual drop yard. The act yard is primarily for mars loads. I prefer the act yard myself.

So... I ask not from stupidity,
    ... but from ignorance,
... yes, there is a different.
    Let the knowledge flow.

A while back we were talking about scaling each load or if not when and it was mentioned that some use the “susp load” gauge (photo below) to estimate the load weight and roll.

I have never used this gauge before and I honestly don’t remember the green trucks even having one, but I’m sure one of the current or former drivers of green trucks can confirm that. If it did, I didn’t know what it was used for so never worried about what it was telling me.

So using this very current example, I can feel comfortable at 60psi that I’m neither over weight nor over on my axle? (Probably too close to roll without a scale right?)

Just to clarify, this is a reading ONLY on my Drives correct? But it provides a good estimate for my overall weights? If scaled roadside, I might need to adjust my rear tandems but my over all weight should be safe?

The first time I checked this I hit something in that my full load of ~34k was two drops of ~17k each... BUT when I dropped the first load off my back end, my psi didn’t drop as much as I expected, so not really comfortable yet trusting only this since I expected it to drop much more.

also, when I first picked up this load it was reading 70... but when I scaled right next door, it had dropped to 60... is that normal to see?

again, just trying to educate myself.
Thanks in advance for the free knowledge.

fair warning... any “Real Truckers” wanna start mocking the “Steering Wheel Holder” without at least attempting to provide just a hint of knowledge will be met with a very sharp tongue... (feel free, in good nature, to mock... I have broad shoulders, just provide a bit of knowledge in the process... lol)

This makes twice I have been to this customer lately and this place has gone from slow....to slower then a turtle. I’ve have been setting at this place since 3:30 PM yesterday 11-06-20. They called me at 11:04 pm to put my empty trailer in a door then BT to over flow trailer drop lot . I get up this morning to check on the load the gaurd tells me the first shift just showed up at 9o’clock and she informed me that the company let most of the employees go . And now all they have left is a few skeleton crew workers to load trailers. She did inform me at least I SHOULD... get loaded today ‍♂️ . I let work no about this this morning

Each brand of truck will be a little different, my cascadia it’s sweet spot on the gauge is 59. Nine times out of ten I will just ride without scaling it if it’s not over 59. But the load of tile I picked up yesterday (44,680) I slid my tandems all the way forward and my gauge was reading 62, so I found the closest truck stop to scale it. I was still legal on axles just more weight on my drives than I would have liked.

Another tip, if you can look in the trailer and see where the last pallets are sitting, count the wall panels from the back of the trailer to the rear pallets, I usually slide my trailer tandems one panel in front of the last pallets. Generally that’s a good starting point.

Just continue to scale heavier loads until you get more accustomed to using your in cab gauge.
