That's what I was guessing, zero. That's the way it was when I ran SW Fleet.

I always thought the Qualcomm was the best dang thing happened, no more phone calls all time. Had a Qualcomm before I had a cellphone.

We carried around a roll of quarters to call dispatch, and then the industry was revolutionized when calling cards came out.

Comes down to personal preferences I guess.

And I’m not talking about the QC in the truck but an app on my phone that I use to make the tech more usable.

I love tech. I very much appreciate that I don’t have to set around some truck stop with a roll of quarters making phone calls or waiting on calls and or moving physical paper around to get paid.

I love that I have a simple app on my iPhone and iPad that I can use to get texts, updates, and submit paperwork. I love that HOS warnings or notifications that I have messages that come directly to my Watch.

My frustration is just what you mentioned… I already have too many apps tracking me. No. I don’t care if they track the truck via the QT or Apps or built in tech. That’s all beneficial. Nice calling in to ask where a trailer is located and is it already empty.

    I love using tech.

But then, for me, a line is crossed when now the tech is no longer tracking the truck or the load and it now is tracking me, personally. Both in the truck and out of the truck. Both when I’m driving and at home or vacation.

so I’ll end up removing the app from my iPhone, iPad and Watch and use company tech to submit paperwork and wait until I’m stopped to know if they sent me a message … and they will have to wait several hours to get a reply.

All because of a feature, CoPilot, that I don’t use anyway. And if I do, I’ve already bought that app personally.

It’s just a personal line in the sand.

It’s a step backwards in my opinion.

Totally agree. But I’m not talking about the QC.

Oh, and also, if you have an app that is always using your GPS radios to coordinate your location for a map app… it will decrease your battery each and every day as it’s always on.

I think you might be a little obsessed with this topic. Your posts are always full of anger. So much negativity.

No, it’s common courtesy for your fellow drivers. Us that have been out here for any length of time have seen the “me” generation, and foreign drivers overtake this industry.

When I was taught 28 years ago by an older gentleman in this industry how to drive, he instilled in me to be courteous to your fellow drivers, move over when someone’s on the shoulder, help your fellow driver if you see he/she needs assistance, etc.

The older generation in this industry is dying off or retiring, and now you just have people who only think of themselves. It’s not only in trucking, it’s a societal thing, and our country shows it.
