I have not had one blow on the tractor but did have one blow on my car when I was a kid. Flames shot out and melted rubber down the side of the car. Oh and it happened at 3 am and sounded like a bomb went off. Nothing like that to wake you up for the rest of the ride home. The other 2 in the car about broke their neck hitting the roof of the car. Why flames? Who knows, because as far as I knew there was just air in there.

I had a right steer blow on 40 going east past sky city. Stayed away from brakes as taught and coasted to the shoulder.

I'm more afraid of a tie rod/drag link failure than a steer tire blowout.

Had my right steer blow while passing a truck on 77 in WV about 6 years ago. Never touched him, never lost the slightest bit of control. Just held serve on the throttle and steered carefully to the shoulder as soon as I was clear. dude yelling on the radio that I had blown a steer... as if I didnt know lol.

Had my rt steer blow over the winter. Was talking to my wife on the phone, she heard it blow. She panicked more than I did.
The best advice dont panic and don't get on the brakes. I know some one that got on his brakes hard enough to wear the wheel down to the holes.

N.M., this happened to me backing a 325 into a jobsite several months ago. Dual steering, right side. 84 KW. The old girl suffers from chronic "fatigue".

Lucky that didn't happen on the road. I was working as a field mechanic contracted to a roadbuilding company a while back. One of their drivers came into the laydown complaining that the dump truck he was driving was wandering. Drag link looked a little funky. Gave it a tap with a small hammer and the ball/socket came apart at the knuckle. I bet it would have come apart on the next trip had he not stopped to get it checked out.
